Have you checked the lint screen? Your brushes are air driven if it's a Hoover Spin Scrub. There is a clear cover on the left side, when facinf from front. Remove this cover, about 3x5 inches and tapered, and clean the screen. Some units have a red or white screen that you can pull out from the bottom of the unit, left side just behind the brush block. Clean the screen then reinstall. Check that recovery tank is properly positioned- lack of seal means less suction which translates to brush block not turning.

The Hoover SteamVac works just fine without the brushes. In fact, I think it does a better job. After sending mine out to be fixed two times, I just decided to try it without the brushes which wouldn't turn AGAIN!! Cannot afford to buy another one right now, and actually, I am pleased with the results I'm getting. No more dirty brushes to clean and better suction. Just be sure you set the "rotating brush speed adjustment" on the front of the SteamVac to "off".

I have the steam vac spin scrub upright. The brushes won't spin anymore.

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
The brushes have got to be driven with some type of belt system or the brush assembly could be broken and is in need of replacement – it’s my guess it could be the belt or a broken part. Check with your local vacuum dealer in the yellow pages to see if he has a product breakdown to see what could be broken and the cost of the part needed. If it is the belt – the cost is in-expensive. Hoover steam vac spin vac making loud noise sparks flying

The only source for electrical sparks is the motor so it must be checked. Bad motor brushes or a broken wire are possible causes. Do not use in this condition.

The Hoover steam vac dual v does not spin its brushes and I dont know how to dismantel it to view the belt .

There is no belt on the steam vac - it operates on air flow. Remove the brush and insert a flat screwdriver into the square hole. If it does not turn, the turbine has seized up and must be replaced. Remember that the brush will not turn unless the lower tank is in place, and the handle is tilted back.

New Hoover Steam Vac's brushes do not spin

The brushes are turning by an air driven turbine. The turbine has a pivot bushing made of steel inside of it that gets rusty because of the water that is running through it. The turbine will have to be replaced. You can find a genuine hoover replacement part by following the link below.

Help. The brushes on my Steam Vac Spin Scrub

If you don't have the user's manual for the machine, here it is:

Check your system for any obstructions that could possibly causing the problem. Also, remove the brushes and see if there's a problem between the brushes and the motor.

Hoover Steam Vac Spin Scrub

Remove the brush block, is the shaft on it or broken off. Replace the block if broken off. Turn unit over, with brush block removed, handle tilted back, is the square hole turning, if not then the turbine is bad, this is what turns the brushes.

Brushes

I have a different model Steam Vac, but with my brushes, you just have to pull down HARD and they'll come off. Then, to put them back on, make sure the center pieces line up and push them on HARD.

Problems with the Hoover Steam vac Heated carpet cleaner

This happens when the filter on the inside of the lid for the dirty water tank is pushed all of the way up. You need to leave a 1/4 in. gap from the top to the top of the filter.
