1.)Try connecting your speakers to another machine ? Then you can distinguish if the speaks or the cable is faulty or your sound software on your machine.

2.)install the l8est drivers for your sound card or audio device

3.)try the front usb, sides or other usb ports

4.) If your speakers also have "Jack" connectors, either try plugging into another audio port at the back of your machine or try the front audio ports

5.) Are the speakers powered on ? Is the volume on the speakers muted OR is the sound in your system on your machine muted or turned off or turned quiet ???

No Power to my speakers

If you are using USB 2.0 Powered speakers the internal mini-amplifier could be defective. Try using the speakers on a DVD player, or other audio device and see if you get the same results. Check to see that the USB port on your Computer is Active and responding correctly. Lastly if a Speaker set is USB 3.0 some may not be 2.0 backward compatible. The speakers are fully dependent on the power amplifier within the device.

Altec Lansing Orbit USB IML237. We got two of these for xmas. There is no sound when these are plugged into any of three macbooks. What gives?

In order to get the IML237 Orbit USB speakers to work onan apple computer, you must change the settings in system preferences.
1.click on the apple icon
2.click on system preferences
3.click on sound
4.click on output
(veryimportant! the speaker MUST be plugged into the USB port in order to show onthe "select a device for sound output" list.)
5.the IML237 Orbit USB speakers will show up under, "USB Sound Device"
6.click on "USB Sound Device"
7.play some music on itunes
Nowthe speakers will automatically be detected when you plug in the speakers. Youshould not have to re-adjust the settings.

Help! Only my right speaker works on my new speakers! Do I need a new sound card?

USB headphones and speakers tend to operate independently of the PC's sound card, but you can determine if your sound card is the problem by plugging the speakers into a different computer. If both speakers work on a different computer, then the problem does lie in the original computer. If so, try a different USB port, especially one that is directly on the computer, not in a usb hub.

If only one speaker works on a different computer, I would troubleshoot the cord that connects the left speaker to the right speaker. Perhaps it is damaged or not connected fully.

Hope that helps.

HK206 SPEAKERS WITH USB PLUG

have you plugged anything else in to make sure the usb port is working? does the computer recognize the usb speakers when you plug the usb plug into the computer? do the speakers work on another computer? if you wiggle the usb wires around does it make a sound through the speakers? eliminate these questions so that we can move on to isolating the issue.
