No spark to the engine. The distributer is brand new so I figure its the wire that goes from the battery to the distributer that has gone wrong. I cant read wiring diagrams very well so I dont know if its a fuse that needs to be replaced or a harness or something like that.

No spark is no spark - did you check that at the coil? If OK, bad coil to distributer wire or connectors, problem with cap/rotor, wrong plug connections (firing order), timing way out of spec, etc.
I am not real sure of the question. Module, distributer and starter ? The starting circuit doesn't really connect to the distributer and as far as a module goes, it's not really connected to the distributer and has 4 wires going to it not 3. You said 3 wires and distributer in your question so I'm gonna try and help you and hope I am understanding what you are trying to ask. You didn't mention your engine size and the picture looks small but it really doesn't matter if you happen to have the 4.3 liter engine. The wiring is pretty much the same. The wire colors may be the same V-6 or V-8 Engine. Now the distributer does have 3 wires coming from the distributer (pink, pink with a black stripe and a brown with a white stripe). Those are for the cam shaft position sensor which is mounted on the distributer. I am guessing the engine won't start but does turn over and your not getting any spark at the spark plugs (kinda going by your question you wrote. If this is what is happening then yes the ignition control "Module" correct however that is mounted on the right (passenger) side of the engine basically on top of the valve cover. Like I said it has 4 wires going to it and if this is faulty you will not get any spark. In the picture with the engine, where I put the red arrow at is the general location of the module. The other 2 pictures are the wiring diagrams for the entire starting circuit and the wiring for the cam shaft position sensor. If I'm way off of what your question is you can reply here with more details in your question or feel free to email you directly at [email protected] Hope I was able to help a little bit anyway.
check the battery connections really good and check the power distribution
center really good, sometimes the wires will get corroded and cause that
too happen,it sounds like you just have a bad connection either to the
distribution center or on one of the cables, that will cause what its
doing,i own one of those and they will do this sometimes, good luck.
if im correct in saying this, i think there is a small cylindrical looking piece with one wire comming out from the front in the distributer under the distributer cap next to the points this is could a condenser you could try changing this for a new one all so check the gape your points make if to small you will get no spark as well if to big
If it turns over fine, check the crankshaft position sensor, and wiring. I have had two no sparks after swapping engines, and it was the crankshaft position sensor.
hi, if you follow the leads that come from the top of the spark plugs where all these leads plug into is the distributer their will be four leads running along the outside going to each spark plug then the lead that goes into the center of the distributer goes to the coil.
So if you follow the four ht leads from the spark plugs what these all plug into is the distributer, if you are removing the distributer then make sure you mark where each lead goes as you need to put them all back in the right place. Its best if you mark say the first lead with a 1 and then write a one onto the distributer where that lead goes into use permanent marker pen to do this so it dont rub off. getting the leads the wrong way round will mean the car will either miss fire or not run at all so just keep it all marked up properly.
Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
If you have replaced the distributer then the timing could be off. Did you set the distributer rotor in the same position when you took it out? If not then you will have to readjust it. But first try to loosen the hold down clamp and turn it very lightly at a time and try to crank. If it gets worse then go the other way very little at a time, and try. Be sure to tighten the clamp before each try.
