Question about HP DeskJet 5650 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

HP 5650 Deskjet Printer CD will not load to Windows 98

I purchased a new HP 5650 printer, and followed all the instructions, but my windows 98 computer (not connected to the internet) says that files are missing and it can not load the software. The first file missing was usbmon.dll. I can not get the computer to ask for that file again, and now another file is missing. I am running the printer by using the HP 550C driver. How do I get the HP CD to work? How do I get the usbmon.dll loaded into the computer? Is there a best driver I can use as a substitute for the CD, since it will not work.

Yes, I have a manual. The driver is not listed on my windows 98 selections, but the driver should have been on the CD. Since the CD did not load, I do not have the software running on the computer, and so am using HP 550C because it works-- a little.

    Yes, and ....

Okay, but now that I have the printer, what is the best way to use it?

  • Bradroot Apr 28, 2008

Thank you! Right now, I am just using HP 550c. I am certain that it is a limping approach for the true capability of the printer.

I do not want to invest any money into a new computer to handle the later versions of Windows.

well..I suppose you are not intending to update beyond W98, so your options are limited. Hope you find a solution.

I bought the HP Deskjet 5650, but I'm not sure how to install it to my home computer.

First find the installation disk that came with your printer in the box. Install the software by placing the disk in your CDROM of your computer and then follow the instructions on the screen. when the software has finished installing, connect your printer to the computer with your USB cord and the computer will automatically do the rest.

Some operating systems already have the driver for your printer and the software is not necessary. To check and see if your computers operating system already has the necessary drivers, just connect your printer via your usb cord. Your computer will recognize the printer once the cord is connected and you will see a pop up message around the right hand corner of the monitor screen that says "new equipment detected" and the computer will do the rest.

Good luck!

I want a software for my printer.

No Problem! Just go to HP.com/Support and download it.

There is one thing, however. You must get THE software for YOUR Deskjet. HP lists four different models for the Deskjet 5650 series. The 5650, the 5650w, the 5652, and the 5655. The software MAY, be the same for all models of this series, but I don't take chances, and give erroneous information.
Viewing the Deskjet from the front, the model number is on the lower right side.

Here is HP.com/Support, the page for the Deskjet 5650 Color Inkjet series, and the specific page that you choose which model you have,
http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_lang=en&h_cc=us&cc=us&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_query=Deskjet+5650&submit.x=3&submit.y=2

I'm going to click on the top model listed, HP Deskjet 5650 Color Inkjet Printer,
as an example.
Now click on the -> Software & Driver downloads heading.
Now choose which Operating System you are using.
I see they only have the Diagnostic Utility available, if you are using Windows Vista.
If you are using Windows XP, they have the full software package available.

Need driver CD for HP3740

Hi

The printer doesn't support windows 98. supported systems are:

» Microsoft Windows Vista
» Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)
» Microsoft Windows XP
» Microsoft Windows XP x64
» Microsoft Windows 2000
» Mac OS X
» Mac OS 9
» Linux

Drivers are available at this page below:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=401496&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&submit.y=3&submit.x=8&lang=en&cc=us

Note that there are no drivers for 98 and it won't be simple to get the printer to work with the 98.. I would recommend upgrading to 2000 or windows xp. if your computer is from 1998 it might be better to buy a new computer.

Todays printers don't work with 10 year old computers anymore.

linux would work on the computer for sure, and so would the printer but using linux is quite complex, you would need to get someone to install it for you and make it look as much like windows as possible, its a whole new system..

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse
