A blank white screen is a very common symptom of a failure in the power supply board. There are parts called capacitors that filter the output power and when the die the power supply does not put out all of the voltages needed by the TV. You are getting the backlight power but not the control voltages. This is an easy repair if you can do a little soldering. Here is a link to a repair guide that shows what to look for and replace on the power supply board.
Leave the Macbook air turned on until the battery goes dead. Then Connect to power and start it up. That should solve the problem. You problem was caused by not letting an update install in full.
