Question about Canon PowerShot A540 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Not downloading to Mac

Has been downloading for 2yrs now. Just stopped. System Profiler recognizes the camera but iphoto or image Browser won't recognize it.
Have re installed programs, run a system check on computer, changed batteries on camera, changed memory cards. And have tried camera on another Mac. Nothing. I'm pretty sure something is wrong with the camera and it needs a Dr, but figured I ask you all first. Any suggestions?
I was just thinking about buying another Canon, but if they only last two years well then no way . . .

Make sure your camera is in playback mode.

I would try updating your Imagebrowser software on Canon's website second. This may work out some glitches in the software.

Next I would try another USB cord, it could be the cord.

I would try a cardreader as a last resort, cheap $12 any local electronics store.

Also if possible, try the camera on a PC just to see if you get a connection. This will help to isolate the issue and let you know if it is the camera or the computer.

Canon offers free tech support, give them a call if all else fails if you haven't already at this point.

Hope this helps!

How do i transfer my pictures to a mac

Assuming your using a USB cord to transfer, plug the cord into the mac and the other end into the camera. If you have iPhoto installed, click and open it. iPhoto should recognize the storage device and ast to import your images.

Why can't I upload my photos from my finepix s1500 onto my mac? It opened the files in my iphoto but they showed up as blank boxes and "Error downloading images - iPhoto cannot import your photos...

Is this a new problem - that is, did it work in the past? Are you trying to import jpeg or raw?

First thing is to see if it is iphoto or the camera that has a problem.

Try uploading the images to another computer (try a PC - not that it is better, but PC is different). If the images can be seen & read there, the images are likely fine and iphoto may need an upgrade to read the format from the finepix s1500. Alternately, try copying the photos from your memory card (use a memory card reader) to your hard disk. See if another application can see the images (even use a word processor to import image), or e-mail the image to yourself and then use your web-browser to see the image.

If the camera images can't be read by multiple computers/multiple readers, then it may be that your memory card is corrupted.

My mac won't recognize my camera like it always does

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as iPhoto.

My mac wont recognize my Fuji Film camera.

Looks like you may need to use a specific application to see the photos on the camera.
Try using Image Capture and iPhoto (for me it worked in Image Capture after changing the iPhoto preferences to always open Image Capture when camera connected - go figure).

Computer does not recoznise images file

.Nef is Nikon's RAW image identifier. See if there's an update for iPhoto at Mac website. Perhaps your camera (if it's new) is not yet set up to upload to iPhoto. You didn't indicate what camera you're using.

Cannot download images to my apple mac

1) plug in the cable from the camera to the Mac USB port
2) Switch on the camera
3) iPhoto should open automatically. If it does not, go to Applications/iPhoto and double click this.
4) You can choose Import in iPhoto and this will copy them into the iPhoto library.

the Mac normally recognizes the camera and launches iPhoto.
Try launching iPhoto, then plug in the usb cable. Make sure the connections are tight on the camera end of the cable.

If your computer has a SD card reader, you might be better off putting your memory card into your computer and just copying the data.

Have you made sure your iPhoto is up to date? Perhaps a new update caused this problem.. Maybe you should try an older version of the software. Also, you might want to try other software. (I think you are on a mac?), you might want to try the software that came with the camera, if it works on your computer.

IPhoto says camera contains no photos, camera says memory card full

Take no more pics until you've recovered the photos, take the card out of the camera. Here's some freeware photo recovery software that should be what you're looking for:

You will need to use a flash card reader with this software. If you don't have one, get one, they're cheap:

IPhoto doesn't recognize Sony MVC CD300

Even though Sony Mavica digital cameras are listed as compatible with iPhoto, the camera has to be set to Picture-Transfer-Protocol (PTP) before you can download. In addition, you will need to open Image Capture in the Applications folder. As soon as these steps are taken, the camera is recognized by iPhoto and all photos downloaded into Image Capture.
