I think the solution here is to forget the modern Boombox or any other portable radio/cd/cassette player of this kind. I live in Almeria Spain and have bought a Spanish radiio/cd/cassette recorder and am having exactly the same problems as you are all having above. To record certain tracks I had to play some of the discs first on my main music centre then they would play on my portable. How daft is that? I would finally get it going and then halfway through the recording or playing it would stop dead and then after a bit start off again. The CD's all played perfectly on the Music Centre so no fault there.. All in all it probably took longer to get a good recording than it did from the very first cd recorder that was ever invented. Another option was to have a clean damp cloth handy to wipe away the slightest of marks on the cd's all the time the box was in use. Who wants to have that bother every time they want to use the basic functions it was designed for? To be honest I thought it was just because it was a cheap Spanish unit but now it seems it is a general fault with this type of audio equipment. I hope someone somewhere comes up with the answer for all and sundry.
