Question about Hitachi 42HDT52 42 in. Plasma HDTV

Hitachi 42HDT52A I saw that you answered some questions on this set so I was hoping you could help me. I ordered this set from Hitachi's authorized refurb center, UEC WEB, and well the first day out of the box I was having an issue with it. When I inserted my cable card, I got a message said that failure to authorize 1040. I called Hitachi customer support and they are telling me this problem requires a new "Digi" board. I think I saw where you listed this part as a 350 dollar part. I have a 30 day parts and labor warranty on this. Hitachi is offering to send someone out to fix the set or to replace it with another one. What would you suggest? Is this a bad sign of things to come? I am at a standstill of whether I should ask for the replacement unit or just get this one fixed? Anything you could advise would be appreciated. Thanks clf2427@yahoo.com

I had the same problem a red halo that eventually led to complete discoloration. I called Hitachi and they had their local rep come out and look, they said it would cost $400 to install $1500 new light engine. Then a couple of months ago, I read a post on this site (Varian - Feb. 14, 2008 - suggesting Hitachi Customer Relations at 800-654 7013 was providing the light engine without charge).

So, I called them again and was not able to persuade them to cover my Hitachi LCD projection (50V500). It appears Hitachi has a poor record with their Light Engine as well all of their new generation TV. They have since stopped selling the LCD projection, but they are into plasma and LCD TV and likewise do not seem to have a good track record - as I hear from other users.

I did the smart thing and switched over to a Sony XBR4 Bravia 52" LCD TV 1080p HD at a reduced price (Approximately $2800 from Amazon.com!). My Hitachi cost me about $ 3600 at a Circuit City Store. Therefore, no Hitachi products for me and not from Circuit City, since, Circuit City asked for $4000 for the same Sony TV, I bought from Amazon, which included delivery and installation. Circuit City would add another $80 for delivery.

HITACHI really sucks!!! Put these people out of business!

I would strongly suggest that you see what kind of a tech you have asking for the replacement... My industry is flooded with too many have-solder-gun will travel wany-to-be techs. And Hitachi is VERY particular who they do business with... If they even suspect that the tech who asked about the part is not capable of installing it properly that may be the problem....
I do know that that program is still ongoing. We did one as recently 7/20 and had no problems getting the part...
Don't really think Hitachi is trying to single you out - - so you might check that out..

We have used the flat ribbon cables from a computer center in the past. Take the old one to a shop and see if they can accommodate you. Maybe they can modify one that will work. Let me know.

The laser stopped working on Hitachi 12'dual compund mitr saw,are there batteries that can be replaced or does the unit need to go to a tech? The laser only worked for a month and the saw is only 3 months...


The laser modules in saws are usually powered by induction from the spinning saw blade. Since your saw is only three months old hopefully you either registered it with Hitachi when you bought it or you still have your receipt as this type of failure would be covered under warranty. Call Hitachi, they may send the part to you if you are comfortable with doing the repair or they will tell you where the nearest Authorized Service Center is for warranty work. Hitachi's number is: 800-706-7337 or 770-925-1774.

Best way how to clean the screen and body of a hitachi plasma 42hdt52a


Tries websites like Amazon.com,Ebay.com to buy a set of a cloth call Micro Fiber cloths.Use the Micro Fiber cloths to clean the front picture screen panel,so u don't scratches the soft LCD picture screen.The body,just used rag soak some with some windex to clean the surounding body.

Does Hitachi C12FCH cut Aluminium?


Hello. A muli-answer for this I'm afraid. The quick answer is yes depending.

Depending On:
  • Thickness of material
  • type of blade
If you are simply wanting to cut aluminum siding/soffit, then install a paneling blade backwards and chop down slowly

If you are referring to bar stock, you will - but not well. You will need a special quick-cut abrasive blade, and you may find you need to change the blades often.

If you wish to cut screen door trim, curtain rod, draft stop, Jolie Edging for ceramic tile, or other thin hollow/extruded materials - then the abrasive blade will do nicely for short/small jobs.

The main problem with cutting aluminum in a high speed rotary device is that the friction of the blade heats the metal fast enough that you get a coating on/in the blade. (In layman's terms - bunged up) The devices in machine shops are set considerably slower, and are usually cooled mainly with liquid.

Can't tilt blade more than 15 degrees


Something is not set up right, or not bolted together correctly. It should not be able to disengage. Is that the saw with a separate tilt lock from the crank, or are they one and the same?
That could be a serious safety hazard and should be addressed and resolved before using the saw. If it can come unlock during cutting, it could cause a kickback or injury.
If you have to, get someone to help you flip it over upside down and have a good look at the insides, or stand on your head and get up in there.
I worked on setting one of these up once, and seem to remember some similar blade tilt issue, but can't recall how it was resolved. I think the instruction sheet may have been faulty somehow, and we had to redo some process in another order to get it right.
Anyway, it worked ok once we got it going.
