The speakers on my Gateway M305CRV do not work, and headsets do not work through the sound jack. I've reintstalled the driver many times. Occassionally a crackly sound comes through the speakers. According to the system, the driver is functioning properly. Any suggestions?

Also, is there an external/accessory solution that works independently - without needing the laptop's driver? Thank you.

You will have to send it in for repair they will replace the components that shorted more than likely the whole audio section with speakers will have to be replaced, if it is under warranty they should cover it more than likely they will not check it out with the manufacturer. It is relatively simple to someone who is failure with repairs if you are then you will know how to fix this. As far as an easy fix no such thing with this situation. Components Audio will have to be replaced at least the bad speaker.

I get no sound nor ethernet reception

control panel sounds and audio, volume you can adjust the volume or advanced, speakers select appropriate speakers or audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have selected the right speakers or control panel, administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll to sound, video and game cotrollers could be a yellow question mark? right click to re-install drivers
as for ethernet

if your modem has an ethernet connection the drivers should be on the disk provided by the internet provider
control panel admistrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down network adapters +expand Ethernet driver right click update driver, disable, uninstall or select properties general you can trobleshoot or driver to update, rollback or uninstall
hope this helps

Gateway 450ROG audio stopped working after connecting to TV

Go into Start / control panel / sounds / and see if any drivers are showing, if not then re-install, Go to vendors site to download driver for your laptop.

Just remembered little tip, can you see the speaker at lower right of screen, if not driver may not be there especially if it was before.

Have you tried plugging in a headphone in to the socket? Do that and see if there is sound in the headphones. If yes, there is a problem with the speakers. If no, some driver issue.

I adjust all the way to high volume is still sound so low.

Best thing to do is to go to manufacturer website and download the latest audio drivers. Then make sure your sound settings are set to High as well the application you are using.
Some movies will be encoded with different audio codec which makes voice pretty quite.
Unfortenately some model laptops come with very weak speakers and you cannot get good volume out of them. If this is the case then your only option is external speakers.

Hope this helps.

My Gateway laptop says my sound device is working properly, but the sound only works if headphones or speakers are plugged into the jack. how do i fix this?

It sound like your headphone jack is the default sound device. Go to control panel > sounds > look at the devices listed. Click on the speakers that have a device connected to them. You may have two selections for speakers, but one may be tied to a sound device and the other to headphones. Highlight the sound device and click on make this device the default sound device and hit apply.
