Yes it could be .., overheating is a killer in audio equipment depending in usage of unit. The audio amps of the board may be melting slowly, but fuses may do that too before they give out

The specs say that it has an optical audio in on your home theater system. So the easiest way to hook up is to connect the optical audio out of your tv to the optical audio in of your home theater system and walla! What ever play on the tv will play on the home-theater system. Turn off the DVD player completely. You MAY have to turn off the tv too. Let sit until you count to fifteen! Turn back on, tv first, then DVD player. You should be able to eject the disc then.
With the home theater system off, press the 0-1-3-5 buttons in that order on the home theater's remote control.
Power on the home theater system.
With the wireless module on, press the [ID SET] button on the back of the wireless module for five seconds.

Your systemn is designed and built to perform 2.1 sound. If you want 5.1 sound you can do 2 things, connect another pair of speakers to the same speakerterminal as your front speakers, however this produces 5.1 stereo sound and not 5.1 surround sound. You can buy a new system that has the proper connections.

No it does not. It will upscale regular DVD's to HD resolution, but that's an electronic trick. You'll need to buy a BluRay player to watch high definition discs.
The HD-DVD standard has been abandoned by Toshiba, so the Sony players are the one's to look for.
