Replace water inlet valve for ice dispenser with new. When icemaker cycles it dispenses through the water dispenser instead of tube going to ice maker. I have switch lines around but can only get water...

The ice maker is what tells the water control valve to open so it may be correct now and the thermostat in ice maker may be defective. Part 27 or 627985 down below where it says Whirlpool Ice Maker Parts Breakdown and in that photo is the ice maker thermostat. If your ice maker has been used for many years the complete ice maker may be better to replace. Ice maker Model=> 4317943
Or click here=>Point and Click Then enter model or part number into search feature. If you have questions please ask, Thanks, Sea Breeze

A couple times recently , when the ice maker was on, it worked but accompanied by a loud click, click, click sound. Now is suddenly stopped working...any suggstions-- can't find the manual . Refrig is...

is water getting to the unit in freezer??? if not you probably have a bad water valve located where water from pipes is connected... if so then you may need new ice maker

Whirlpool Ultra Care II

I believe this is a similar model to mine, which did the same things. This is a direct drive style (no belt). What possible happened is the coupling in between the motor and transmission has broken partially, and it "grabbing" only under a light load. It's a relatively inexpensive (under $5) part, and can be changed pretty easily.

These couplings can be found on Ebay:

If this link doesn't post correctly, just search for "whirlpool coupling". Good luck.

Frost on Ice Maker shute

Dtot, does the flap shut all the way? Sounds like you are drawing moisture from the chute. The flapper should seat so that no air is being drawn in. I have seen a number of these Whirlpools where the pin and spring retainer has broken off from the dispensor housing causing this problem. They use to replace the whole freezer door because the dispensor housing is not a servicable part. They have now come out with a kit to address this problem. This is not a fun job for a first timer. You may want to contact Whirlpool and inquire about the aforementioned. If this is your case, there is a good chance they will cover it. Catriver..post back.
