wipe out the part under the printer head. check for inks that may have come in contact there accidentally. usually during paper jams. you may use a kleenex. don't use a paper towel as it is too rough. Anything soft would do.
Check in the printer driver properties window on the computer. It sounds like the Paper Source is set to "Auto Sheet Feeder". You need to change this setting to "Paper Feed Switch" so that you can select the paper source from the printer itself.
