DId you ever find a solution? My pixma MP500 does the same. Only started about a month ago, printer is about a year old.

Same thing after about a year and a half. Replaced the print head, no better. If we print 3-5 pages, it'll clear up and print clean until the printer rests for a while, then the stripe returns. Sometimes it's a broken stripe, sometimes it's a fat stripe. We're about to buy an HP for the home office but the Pixma will soldier on in the basement workshop.

I have the same problem with my mp500. canon rep says I must be using off brand ink but I have not. they say I need to have it repaired - not worth it

Has anyone come up with a solution to the black ink stripe on the back of the paper. I use only cannon ink and tech support says to send it in for repair. I don't think it is worth it. My model is MP830

See my comment April 2008 - I just had same thing happen again today. I have been printing letters - printed about 150 in batches of 20 or so over the past 2 days, no problems. Suddenly tonight started seeing teh *&#^%@$ stripe again. Happened near the end of a PGBK cartridge, so it was not a faulty cartridge. It continued after I replaced it (with true blue Canon cartridge as always) so it was not the old cartridge at all. Was in the middle of a paper tray, so not the paper. Just deep-cleaned PGBK noxzzle & bottom of paper try a couple times each. Seems to have worked for now. @%$#@%^!@^%#!@#*&!%*(%!!!!!!! Never the less, for all I have used this printer, I have had only these two incidents in about 3 years, otherwise I love the printer. If it were only a fax machine, it would be perfect, but it makes great scans to be emailed, next best thing.

*($%$%!$$&*%^@&$**@(!()@!@ -- see post below from 5 minutes ago --- just now it printed 18 pages fine after the cleaning, and then the stripe suddenly returned on the 19th page, fresh as ever, and then faded away over the next 3 or 4 pages. I am beginning to wonder if the "MP" in the model name stands for "maybe poltergeist"?!?!?!

This is how I finally resolved the issue. Deep cleaning on PGBK head several times and bottom plate cleaning several times. This is done thru maintenance tab.

When printing a black stripe of ink is deposited on the underside (wrong side) of the paper. Any ideas for fixing?

wipe out the part under the printer head. check for inks that may have come in contact there accidentally. usually during paper jams. you may use a kleenex. don't use a paper towel as it is too rough. Anything soft would do.

Re: Canon Pima MP500 Printer.Despite running cleaning settings for print head and rollers ectc,I am still getting a 1cm wide line of black ink through the length of the reverse side of printed pages....

On back side of printed paper?

It means that you have an ink in paper path, i would ques on registration roller (long black roller which you can see when you open the printer cover).

Try to print 20-30 white sheets or similar to get rid of stripes

Check in the printer driver properties window on the computer. It sounds like the Paper Source is set to "Auto Sheet Feeder". You need to change this setting to "Paper Feed Switch" so that you can select the paper source from the printer itself.

1 Answer

Error 6A00

The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.

Solution 1:
Move the printhead carriage back and forth a few times.

Solution 2:
Check the purge unit: Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.

Solution 3:
Press the ink pads down in the purge unit.
