Question about Belkin (F5D8231-4) Wireless Router (F5D82314)

1 Answer

Major issues For 3 weeks the internet connection has been unstable. I phoned Belkin and because the old router re-set button was broken they replaced it with a new N1 router. After installing the N1 and then subsequently re-installing the USB software the same problem exists. Connection is unstable. I had my provider here today to check the modem and he was perplexed also! After 2 hours he gave me a new modem and basically said maybe there is a compatability problem with the modem and the N1 router. I spent 6 hours on and off the phone with the Belkin helpdesk and they couldn'[t figure it out so they escalated my call to the higher ups at Belkin (in Australi) I am waiting on a call from them now, but thought someone else may have some answers! Good luck and thanks!

What version is your Belkin N1 router? The version number can be found on the bottom of the unit (ie 1000, 2000, 3011, etc).

I had the same problem. My Belkin N1 Router was constantly dropping the WiFi connection (every few minutes). I tried several solutions I found on different forums:

Change the channel selection from Auto to a specific channel -- I tried all 13 channels, but no improvement.

Update the firmware to the latest (Beta) version -- still no improvement.

Finally I enabled "Protected Mode" and the connection seems fine now.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Connection

Update the firmware on the router to the latest version available on Belkin's website. Do this over a wired connection, NOT wireless. Also, make sure that your modem is not the issue.

Check all other wireless devices within the range of the router, cordless phones, cellular phones, etc.
Change the wireless channel on the router or possibly the other wireless devices.

2nd: check the Keep Alive setting in the router configuration if you have DSL. Set this accordingly
