No, your old parts like the memory and others may be not compatible with a higher model of motherboard. Check the specifications of the motherboard first to know if you can still use the old parts to it before buying.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530. Was getting 2 quick beeps on start up and loud fan noise. I replaced the cpu fan but the one I bought did not have the right plug for the motherboard connection. I had to modify...

This model (as well as many other Dell desktops) has a DUAL SPEED CPU fan. If the motherboard detects that the CPU temp is running hot it will increase the speed of the CPU fan to lower the temp of the CPU. You should do a Google search for the correct CPU fan and purchase it and install it back into your computer.

Im putting a MSI p7n-sli motherboard in and i cant get windows to load up. i have the correct cpu, ram and power supply. Intel pen. dual core e2200, ddr2 6400 memory. Running vista home premium.

Is this a fresh install of Windows? You might try to install Ubuntu Linux to see if that works. If it does, then the hardware is probably ok, try reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling Windows. If Linux does not work, then you have a hardware issue, you will have to start changing out hardware one piece at a time until you find the bad one.

After changing power supply, motherboard still doesn't start

Asus huh.. okay your problem is one of the following ^_^
1- either the CPU Fan is not attached well or loos, that will cause the CPU to melfunction
2- BIOS damaged, well if the mother beard doesn't start at all then this is your problem, Change the BIOS at any ASUS local agent
3- CPU damaged, if the computer fan starts working but the screen doesn't and you are suer the fan is tightly and correctly attached.. then this problem remains in CPU.. @_@ I really hope its not.

cpu does not choose the RAM , its the motherboard that you should look into.  if you can give us the exact model of your dell pc, or better yet the Exact model of your motherboard, we can easily tell you if its supported... usually Pentium 3 computers use SDRAM modules

A few potential problems:

1. Your CPU fan isn't working, causing your CPU to overheat and then turn off the system
2. Your power supply is faulty
3. A capacitor has blown on your motherboard

Give us more details on your problem so we can figure out what's going on
