I added 1 memory module to run in dual channel mode. Everything worked exept, that the speed was 533 (not 667 as i hoped) so I changed BIOS memory settings to 667. Then it went black and there are 3 beeps and it wont start.
I dont know how to reset BIOS.
Any help in getting back default settings?

Open your chassis (cabinet) and look for the bios jumper on the motherboard. It is located near the SATA ports next to the Front Auxiliary Fan connector. Put the jumper in 2-3 to enable maintenance mode. This will allow you to enter bios settings. Then redo any changes that you had made, i.e. reset the memory configuration to auto and save the changes and exit.
Now replace the jumper in 1-2 position. Reboot. And your system will work fine.

It sounds like you have a bad memory module (refer to for a definition of the beeps)
If you have more than one memory stick, try to remove 1 and boot the PC, if the problem is not solved, try to put it back and remove the other one. If it boots, you found the bad culprit. (as discussed in this article :

Hope this helps

My compaq persario sr1000 power is on the fan is on. but it beeps with a short beep and keep on. beeps pause and beeps again all with the power on but no picture on the moniter

Your ram/ram slot may have gone bad, contact Compaq Tech support for detailed instructions.

For a basic idea of what to do if you know what your doing:
1. Pull out 1 ram card in the first slot
2. Start up system
3. If beeping appears leave that slot empty
4. continue until beeping stops

Side Note:
If you keep removing all the ram cards and the beeping continues, I probably got the wrong error.

No ram beep comes without ram and no display

> No RAM beep comes without RAM.

That is to be expected -- when the motherboard does _NOT_ detect any properly-mounted RAM, the motherboard sounds the "no-RAM" beep.

> and no display

Correct. Without RAM, the computer cannot "paint" anything onto the video screen.

It does not start, gives one long beep (about 2-3 seconds) silence and beep again

Switching DDR cards solved the problem. I was getting long beeps every 2 seconds. No short beeps. Just one long beep every 2 seconds. Thanks Josh Whitehead.

Hello every 1 d845hv

If it is only since removing the ram and re-inserting it that there is no display, try removing the ram again and re-inserting them 1 at a time then switching on to see if there is any display. Make sure the ram is firmly in place in its socket before switching on. Also you do not mention if there are any beeps coming from the internal speaker when switching on. These beeps sound different for different problems and the way it beeps can tell you where the problem lies.

NO display P4VM800M7

This type of problem is so common nowadays. What I did is open up the casing, pulled out the RAM and by using pencil eraser, rubbed the contact pattern. Put it back and turn on your computer. Always work for me and hope it might work for you too.
