Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have recently purchased a Samsung PS50P91FD 50 Inch Plasma Tv. The problem is every now and then while watching tv or playing the xbox the picture is lost and a either the screen goes green or orange with white lines and then tv turns its self off and then on again and the picture is ok. Also when the tv was turned on for the first time the top third of the picture was scrambled but after i turned the tv off and on again the picture became good.Sometimes turning on the Bluray player upset the tv and the picture would distort again. Both the tv and bluray player where plugged into the same power board. I thought maybe the board was faulty or not upto the demands of the tv and player so the tv is plugged into its own wall socket. This has stopped the picture being scrambled but it is still turning its self off after the picture is lost.

If this set is still within the warranty period, return it for warranty service. Since this is an intermittant problem, I would request an exchange. If they won't exchange the set (even after going up the chain of management), provide specifics about the problem. State up front that this is an intermittant problem. Once reported, the warranty kicks in even if the problem doesn't become hard and fast until after the warranty has expired since the initial report occurred before the warranty expiration. This is not a problem caused by external devices.

Rear projection tv picture quality loss

most of these sets have 3 lens for the three picture tubes inside and also a mirror---if it has never had the lens cleaned they could be dusty and this will diminish the brightness and clarity of your picture---if real dirty the picture will look washed out------most of these sets you can remove the back cover(unplug set first) and gain access to the lens ; clean them with a lens cloth or a paper towel with glass cleaner.

not true about the 200 hour thing, and the pic qualith can be a couple of things, if you have a cable box, it can be caused by a week signal, or a loose connection, if the cable is just going from the wall to the tv, you may want to reprogram the chanels

Check your cables and TV input settings.  Can you get to the on screen menu?  Does anything appear on the screen when the tv is on?

Most HDTVs cannot properly stretch incoming HD signals, however, if the programme is true HD, you should not much of the image off-screen - most new HDTVs have about 2% overscan and the tickers should be on screen when watched in the appropriate stretch mode.
