Question about Brother HL 5170DN Laser Printer
Status light permanately on nothing will print....turned off and restarted...nothing.....pulled out cartridge ....nothing....tried paper tray....nothing.....help please
I had same problem, I removed the duplex unit, removed the back and found that the fusor unit rollers had become unclipped where someone had pulled a jam out the back of the unit

If the status led goes red after the boot cycle and none of the motors started that means normally that one of the optical sensors is jammed.
Most of the times its an actuator in the fuser that is jammed in the "paper jam" position.
There are also 2 buttons, one in the left front and one in the right back to detect weither front and rear door are closed. You have to open the covers to access these buttons.
A second optical detector in the fuser detects if the fuser clear jam door is open or closed.
It could be that one as well.
When you remove the cartridge, seperate the toner from the drum kit, many times between those 2 items remains a little piece of shredded paper that sits on top of one of the registration actuators. (the 2 flags under the cartridge)
If none of this would help i fairly think the engine board or main pcb is damaged

Same problem here. I think the motor is dead. Still looking for answers.

I have exactly the same problem, which started a couple of weeks ago. Has nothing to do with my computer's driver because it makes no difference if you connect the printer to a network or computer. Besides there are more computers on my network and no one can print.
