You have not mentioned whether it is a laptop or a PC.
If it is a PC when you open it you will have slots for your RAM cards. They would be on the mother board. You can remove them and then take them to a nearest hardware store and can ask for another 256 MB or directly can take 1 GB if your motherboards supports 1 Gb.
If you are not sure where the RAM is...then better surf the net to see RAM pictures...
If it is a laptop then the same way but you would have the slot at the back of the laptop...

Your computer going slow could be for the following reasons:
1 Not enough RAM - remove unwanted files by cleaning the disc. Also defragment the computer. Increase the RAM
2 Virus - remove the virus
3 If you do the above you will see the improvement and no need to have a new cpu
download and install spybot S&D then update it and perform a scan on your system... remove all the spyware it finds... next defrag your hard drive ... this should be done at least ones a week.... also how much memory does the computer have and what operating system are you using ?
The only way to get your computer to run faster without buying new hardware (such as RM or a new motherboard is to 1) eliminate unnecessary programs from starting up or loading at startup and/or by removing ad-ware/spy-ware from your computer.
1) Check to make sure that no programs that you are unaware of are starting up by running explorer.exe and going to Program Files/Startup and removing any progarms that you do feel you need from Startup. 2) Download, run, install either or both Ad-Aware (not AdWARE OR adaware) from www.lavasoft.com and/or Spybot Search & Destroy. Ad-aware and Spybot are both free and excellent programs.
Short of buying new hardware there is not much else you can do to make your computer run faster.
The processor has nothing to do with it. Definetly your system is infected by a virus or a trojan or spyware. Please download free antivirus like QUICK HEAL and make a thorough scan.
If this doesnt solve, the IC [circuits] of your chipset might be overheating. The general symptom for this is the computer freezes and refuses to perform any tasks after few minutes of loading the os.
First please make a scan and also post the picture of your taskmanager showing the different processes running.
you are infected with a virus/trojan. Sorry to say the easiest way to remove it is to reformat you hard drive. Your registery is now infected.
If you want to try to remove it, something like ad-ware or spy bot. It's free, but it will not remove all the trojan on your computer. I seen this happen to alot of people. You can google your problem and see alot of people are in the same boat as you.
