I have lost the installation CD and want to download the printer software to my new Macbook Pro, but I dont find an option anywhere for Mac OS, only windows. Is the driver software for this printer not compatible with mac?

Yes you can but you'll need to install the Mac OsX driver to make it run through your Macbook Pro. You can download the Mac OSX driver from HERE,(open the link and select O.S i.e. Mac OSX and Language and click "submit", the download links will be displayed) it should also be included in the CD that came with the printer.
you must have the software provided by HP to use the scanner (or another application designed for that purpose) go here
select your printer from the list then select OS X and there should be a download link to the original software for Mac OS X and/or a replacement cd
