First of all, by the sounds of it, it is booting to a very low resolution. ;)
Assuming that you run Windows, right click your desktop and go into either preferences or display settings. In one of those tabs, you'll be able to adjust your screen resolution. Usually the maximum setting it gives you is what your monitor is designed for. If not, just play around with the settings until you get the right resolution. If you screw something up, it's not a big deal; just don't do anything for a bit and it'll revert to the previous setting.
I hope this helps!

The screen is 2 inches from each side and i cant get it to enlarge

Hello, it seems like your display settings are incorrect. Right click on the desktop, and go to display properties. Then go to settings and adjust the screen resolution to a larger size.

Backlight display on my inspiron b130 laptop. All images are barely visable. Laptop powers up as normal but images are very faint

If your notebook appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, you could have a back light problem which can be caused by a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link to determine the fault and fix :-

Problem with Fan - Dell Laptop Inspiron B130 ?

Hello,

If the fan is dead, then the laptop will shut itself off after a short while to prevent heat damage. It is normal for the fan to spin up when you turn on the laptop and then stop turning. The fan will kick in again when it is needed as heat builds up. The system fan has absolutely nothing to do with the lcd lighting up.......seriously.

If the laptop is running, but the screen goes dark after a few seconds, it sounds more like the backlight on the lcd panel is shot. From what you describe, I assume that your lcd is not 'lit up' at all, but you can see a faint image on the screen. If this is the case, then either the inverter board is shot, or the backlight for the lcd panel is dead. You can try calling Dell at 1-800-www-dell and try to purchase an inverter board. They are cheap, and it would be worth the gamble to buy one, because if the backlight is shot, then you need a new lcd panel - $350+ (the backlight is part of it and not replaceable). The inverter board is located at the bottom of the display module, right behind the dell logo at the bottom of the display. It's quite easy to get at.

Here's a good test. Shut the laptop off, and attach a computer monitor to the 15 pin vga connector at the left side of the laptop. Turn on the laptop and the monitor should show you an image. If not, try holding the blue 'fn' key and press and release the f8 key. This should switch you over to the external monitor. If the laptop works fine when connected to an external monitor but has no image, then it's definitely not the fan, and you should try an inverter board. If still no good with a new inverter board, you can still use the laptop with an external monitor.

Hope this helps!.......let me know how you make out.

My dell inspiron b130 boots up but monitor is black

After your laptop boots up into windows, hold down the Fn key and as your doing that press the F8 button that should switch the output from the vga connetor to the LCD screen on the laptop.

If you still don't get video then you'll have to reseat the LCD cable from the back of the LCD screen to where it connects to the motheboard.

If you still don't get video then its either going to be a bad LCD or a bad motherboard.

Dell B130 boots but nothing on screen and no boot up sounds

If you are seeing an shadow image on the LCD and you have video on an external monitor, then the LCD backlight has failed. The LCD will need to be replaced

I googled B130 LCD's and they generally run $125 to $200

Dell Inspiron B130 wont boot

First remove the battery from the PC! Leave it off for a short period of time! about 2min. This allows the computer to erase anything in temporary memory. Place the battery back onto th PC and try to boot it up. The other thing you can do is boot the pc up with just the power cord in place. See if it boots just from the power cord. Sometime the batteries from dell causes the whole entire PC to become unresponsive.
