I've had an HTC Hero for a week now, and the trackball doesn't seem to scroll down anymore. It goes up, left, right, but not down. What could be the problem and the solution? Thanx.

If you power on your device whilst holding the home button, you should be able to use the trackball to select "factory reset" or something similar in the recovery menu that appears. This will however wipe all data.
Failing that, you could try installing an official RUU update. These a from HTC, and will reflash your phone so it is completely as new.

copy that into your browser.
This needs to be run from your computer with the phone plugged in. You also need to have installed the HTC sync software, which has the drivers needed. You can use the HTC sync software to hopefully backup your data as well, as it will be also lost with this method
well leaving to charge all night shouldn't have killed it for one. For two, if it was somehow "repaired" and I suspect they just changed the battery, if it worked when you took it in then they should have to "repair" it again for free.
if ur trackball doesnt work because its dirty theres a perfect way to clean it. my trackball get dirty all the time from greay hands and once that trackball starts to feel buttery and greasy its not going to work (usually a htc snap trackball feels rough and vibratety when you scroll with it). I'm not sure if htc trackballs come out so it sort of scratch the trackball with my fingernail, this scratches the grease of until if feels rough again. if the trackball moves around to much when you clean it, press it in with the other fingernail. if this doesnt work i guess you could get some rubbing alcholon a cotton ear bud (q-tip) and clean it but i havent tried this. if a greast trackball is the not the problem to your malfunctioning then i guess you should get a new trackball or get it repaired in a shop. :D
This is a common problem on Blackberrys with trackballs. When the trackball goes bad you lose one direction first. Inovagent can replace your Blackberry trackball or you can find another local place to have it done.
Have you removed the ball at any time? If it is put back in wrong, it could cause this. If not, the ball assembly itself might be bad. You can find them fairly cheap on eBay.
It is a very common problem. You just need a new trackball. Should be about $25. If you want to make it work temporary, then just removed it and clean the trackball and the phone part under it (on the phone itself) with 99% alcohol. It might work for a while again
