Top left corner of the screen is black. it is approx a 7 x 7 inch rectangle size. any ideas on how to fix it

You have" light tunnel failure" which is caused from glue that holds the light. it has become weak and has caused an obstruction of veiw on your tv. it should cost about 120 to fix or you can do it your self if you can find the tv lamp location inside our tv. No need to get rid of your tv.

Black Rectangle Box appears shortly after turning on TV
That is the PIP (picture in picture) setting, on the TV's remote control. locate the button marked PIP and press the button, it should clear the little box.

I could not see the image you say you included in your description. If the rectangle is black (and not just an outline) it may be the box associated with captioning or text descriptions. Use your setup menu or remote control to turn captioning/text off.
