It will most likely not be the monitor at fault, but the video card in your computer.

If your monitor is working like a monitor should, then it is a bit of technically dumb equipment. It can only do what the video card tells it to do in essence.
So if your video card does nothing, then the monitor can not do anything.

When your computer first starts (when the monitor remains blank) do you hear a beep, or a series of beeps from the computer?
If you get 1 quick beep, that is good, if you get a beep, followed by 2 quick beeps, then check the video card is in the computer correctly by pushing it into the slot. It may have moved just slightly out of place between the time it was installed and the time it was hooked back up, particulary if the motherboard and video card were changed at a shop and the computer had to be transported.
Also check the memory is in the slots correctly.

If your unsure on what these look like, then please post back and I will try to explain them in more detail.

Hope that helps =)

I have a compaq presario s3040se desktop the monitor quit

Try turning on the monitor before the Compaq system box, if Win is doing what it should, it will 'find' a 'new device' and reinstall the drivers for it. It may not look right but you can change the resolution after it boots up.

I have an Acer X1700 desktop - 3 days old by the way. Runs Vista Home Premium. 1 day after arrival, pushed power button. Monitor light is blue, flashes the Acer logo, then says "no signal" and blue light...

I would get ahold of acer. It should be under warrenty. sounds like a hard drive issue to Me. Just because it is new doesn't mean it was right from the start. My neighbour had the same problem with his acer. I told him to but a dell or hp. good luck.

Picture does not fill Screen

It is displays fine up unto the point where Vista loads, then it must only happen when Vista loads the display driver. I would go with your initial assumption and reinstall the display driver.

DVI cable not working

If you still have your old monitor plug it back in for a bit and load the drivers for the new monitor (from the disk which came with the new monitor). Right click on your desktop and choose properties and set your display resolution to something like 1024 x 768. Shut down the pc and connect your new monitor to it with the dvi adapter. If it is recognised ok you can then set the resolution from 1024 x 768 to the recommended amount for your new screen. The refresh rate is also important as some lcd screens only work at a certain level. There should be an auto switch on the monitor and if you press this it sets the display to optimum, - or should do.
