Question about Kodak V803 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Kodak V803 Digital Zoom Camera turns off when I try to zoom.

I bought a V803 Camera from Kodak last year. I'm not sure if I still have a warranty or not.. What happens is, when I try to zoom in on my camera, it barely zooms, then it just shuts off. I have already sent my camera back to Kodak before because my LCD screen cracked. Am I able to send it back again, and if I can, do you think that it will cost much more then before? Please Help!

The problem will more then likely be either a worn/broken gear or the gears have accumulated a bit of dust in them.
If you send it back they should be able to do the reapir easlily enough, but price wise you will be at their mercy.

If you decide to send it back try this first..(pending the lens stays out after it shuts off)
Turn the camera on. Activate the zoom function. Grab the lens and GENTLY pull it outwards in a straight line. Do not pull it on any sort of angle. If you use force, then it will damage the gears.
This will only help if a small amount of dirt is stuck between the gears.

If the lens goes back in when it shuts down then..
face the camera towards you. As the lens moves out grip it and do as above. But at all times, do it GENTLY.

As I said, this will only help if a small amount of dirt is wedged between the teeth in the gears. If you need to apply force, then it is more serious and this will not help.

If the camera is under 12 months old then the warranty should still be good, and sending it back is the better option. However, if they find dirt in the gears, they may decide to charge you since in their eyes it is not a malfunction. They will accept it for repairs at any time, it's just when out of warranty, or through damage not covered by the warranty you will be charged.

You have 1-2 years warranty on your camera (depending on which country you bought the camera in).

KODAK recommends a repair for this error code.

An Out of Warranty repair for this model for this fault is about 48 pounds + shipping. KODAK also offers a Trade up option where you will have the opportunity to trade up to a newer model 25-30% cheaper than the market price.

In order to arrange your repair/Trade up: Contact KODAK:

Zoom out and it shuts down

Don't think you'll have to send it in for repair. How old is your battery? Keep in mind that it isn't meant to last for more than a year or two, regardless of how often it is used. A camera will automatically shut down if its battery power is getting low. This usually occurs when the camera is doing power intensive actions, such as zooming (it uses a motor). Anyways, Amazon has some generic options for you if your battery may be over-the-hill:

Zoom wont work

double-check the battery first, as zoom needs more power.

if battery is ok then there is possibility of loose connection/ dry solder inside or some component gone faulty.
contact your vendor or kodak support if still in warranty.

Battery

Hello!

I will suggest you that you should claimed the warranty if ever there is,

Because sometimes the camera charger got a problem, If you have an spare battery maybe you should try to prove that charger is good and only the battery is busted.

This problem maybe solve by removing the battery and fix it back. and then charge it again.

But its better to enjoy the warranty. You should decide if the cause is much reasonble by changing the battery or by going to the vendor and claim the warranty.

best regards, melnavz
