My camera fell from less than a foot off the ground, and there is no external damage. Everything works, including when I play back pictures and videos, but when i put the camera in shooting mode, the screen displays pink stripes. And when i try to take a picture, the screen turns purple and pink psychedelic.

It sounds like you have a broken LCD screen this shouldn't effect the image quality, but it might get worse over time and it will probably make it more difficult to compose the picture.

ApprenticeIf the screen is okay when playing back pictures, then the screen is okay. It sounds more like an issue with one of the small ribbon connectors between the lens assembly, that contains the CCD, and the main board. The lens unit floats in the chassis and may have dislodged the connector in the fall.
