Problem with Canon PIXMA MP530 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Error message "More than one ink tank installed...etc

Hello,

I've only had this printer for maybe 2 months, used it 3 times, and now everytime I try to use it I get this error message..."More than one ink tank of the following color is installed. Black [8]

Use only one ink tank per color at a time."

So I open it up to find that ink tank full and the red light on and its flashing, I take it out and put it back in -stops flashing, and still get the same error message.
Its the correct ink, it has two black tanks, how can I fix this, I cant print anything!

Thank you,
Tammy

    • My printer has the same issue with the yellow ink tank. It appears that most people have purchased new cartridges, however, I already did that- this is my second set of cartridges, any advice?

      Thanks,

      AK

    • I have the same problem but with the yellow cartridge. If I turn off the printer and turn it back on it will print but only once and then the error message again.

    • The Canon MP530, when print job is sent, displays the following message - ..."More than one ink tank of the following color is installed. Black [8] and no printing is performed. On opening of the compartment the Black [8] cartridge is flashing as the offending cause of the error. On removal of the cartridge it is clear that there is ample ink. I have been hoodwinked into buying replacements and they are sitting on my desk still full of ink. So it cannot be the ink - the fault or casue of the problem must be either with the chip on the cartridges, the machine or a design fault. Please note I have not printed enough documents to even empty one of these Black [8] cartridges However as a result of this fault I have enough stock to last my grandchildren. The ritual of opening and closing the printer, removing the offending cartridge, then replacing the very same cartridge because it is full of ink is monotonous, disappointing and time consuming.

    • I'm having the exact same problem--but with the blue cartridge which is almost new. I've pulled the cartridge and cleaned the contacts with rubbing alcohol, but I still have the same problem over and over! My printer is only 6 months old........

    • I get the same error message..."More than one ink tank of the following color is installed. Black [8]

Use only one ink tank per color at a time."

Its the correct ink, it has two black tanks. This causes not only a printing problem, but also a problem with sending faxes!

I would like to know if anyone else has had a problem with the power supply packing up after the 1st set of original cartridges was still in use. Other than that I cannot fax more than 1 (one) page at a time! The document feeder grabs all the paper at the same time.

Partserve, agent for Canon in South Africa is totally useless and am still waiting for replies I send them a year ago!

      Please can you assist?

    • I get the same error message: "More than one ink tank installed...etc Check 8(blk). The cartridge seems to be fine. In fact, i replaced it with a new one, and a few days later, the same problem.

      My solutions:
      (1) Generally, I can only fix this by taking out the cartridge and putting it back in. Sometimes I have to do this several times.

      (2) Also, sometimes turning the printer off, waiting, and turning it back on, is enough to clear the error code.

      (3) I try to always turn the printer off when not in use. I do not let it go into Power Saver mode and let it just sit. When I turn it back on to use, it works... so far.

I hope this is just a software malfunction and there is some sort of fix. thanks

    • My computer tells me there is more than one yellow ink tank installed, although there isn't. If I open the printer, take out the ink, put it back, it sometimes works for one copy where after it comes up with the same problem. Now that doesn't even help anymore.

sir ,
i wish to know what is your printer? So i can come up with your problem.

thanks
alecz

I have a Canon Pixima MP530 printer. I had the same problem with the [5] black ink. I tried cleaning all of the contacts with no success. I put another new [5] cartridge in and the problem was solved.

This was solved for me, it was the contacts, they sent me a new cartridge and I havent had a problem since, its been months.
I hope for all these ink cartridges getting tossed and replaced -they are getting recycled, suppose it's better than tossing out the whole printer.
Anyhow - solution is, get a new cartridge.
