Thank you , I am going to try that will tell if it works. Where could I purchase the printer head to replace it with, or do you have be a repair shop to get hold of that part?

Interesting enough I also lost the magenta color on my same Model MFC-5440CN. I wonder if there's a systemic problem with this printer as to why the same color goes on these assuming others are having the same issue. I can't believe they don't sell a cleaner cartridge for these machines ?

If you have used generic ink the head is clogged and cant be cleaned anymore.

Last chance is to use original brother ink which has cleaning fluids within the ink. Run the cleaning procedure twice and simply print 10 PAGES afterwards. Wait A DAY AND TRY TO PRINT IN MAG AGAIN:

If there will be no mag. the ph is definitley clogged and needs replacement.

YOu can buy it from a service dealer (quite expensive!).

Another way is to buy a defective dcp 115c or 110c with a broken scanner and use this ph as a spare part.

Brother MFC-5440CN wont feed 2 colors of ink, Yellow and Magenta and also says

This may be due to the fact that you have not removed correctly the small label that seals the air input to the cartridge. Normally on brother cartridges it's on the back or on the top of the colored label. Please check that. If no air is allowed in then your ink will not be provided thus generating your problem.

Just refilled the Cyan and Magenta cartridges and it's still saying that they're low. Help?

The color printer might not print in color due to dirt and other unwanted particles present in the printer. Due to this unwanted particles, the ink used for printing and other materials might become blocked inside the printer device and this might lead to some printing issues. In order to resolve this issue, regular cleaning of the printer is necessary.

What is cyan ink

It must be referring to the cyan color cartridge.

"Cyan" refers to the blue-green color cartridge.

Most printers have either 2 cartridges (black and multicolor), or 4 cartridges( black, magenta, yellow, and cyan).

See here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyan

Hope this helps.

Brother MFC-5440CN Printer Problem

If this only happens when you are copying.

1. Your scanner glass is dirty. Open the lid, use windex to clean the flatbed. Look on the left side. You should see a strip of glass, with the scanner sitting under it. This strip is used when the document feed is being used. Make sure it is clean. Most common problem is getting a little whiteout or the sticky residue from scotch tape on this glass, which causes lines down your copies.

Clean it with alcohol which will dissolve the sticky stuff and the whiteout.

If this does not solve the problem, the CCD scanner in your machine might be going bad.
