Phillips 10 gb external hard drive not opening up

I have a Phillips 10 gb external hard drive that has numerous files on it, and it will not open up. I have tested another one just like it in the same usb port and it works just fine. I have checked it on four computers and it won't open up on any of them. The Geek Squad said that it probably had a short in it......is there anywhere or anyone who can open it and repair it? Or, can anyone transfer my files off of it?

If its the kind of usb with the retractable swinging plug, the problem may be the that the computer's usb port is too tight for the plug. This results pulling its wires to the actual disk off the plug.

The only way to fix it is to pry it open, remove the plug and try to resauder the wires to the plug and re-assemble.

DO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE. this is a serious design flaw. My drive was destroyed this way and I am contacting phillips for a replacement.

You can try to boot up with Linux LIVE cd and plug on the drive.

External hard drive won't open jpeg files

First thing i would do is uninstall publisher and try to open them since it happened after you installed it. If that seemed to resolve the problem, try reinstalling publisher and going to www.microsoftupdate.com and downloading any updates for publisher then try again. Let me know :-)
