Question about Printers & Copiers
A USB device such as a scanner or printer may not be detected or function correctly when connected to the USB port of a Dell Latitude or Inspiron PC.
USB devices normally obtain some power from the USB ports of the PC. Some Dell PCs do not provide enough voltage from the USB ports to power some USB devices. To resolve this, you can purchase a powered USB hub to provide the USB devices with sufficient operating power. Such a hub will help the device operate correctly in the case of communication issues. This may happen on other Dell computers as well. If "Plug and Play" screens do not appear, or inconsistent error messages occur, then the issue probably lies with the on-board USB port. The power from the USB port on the PC may be too low. This worsens when using a USB port located on a keyboard. Use a powered USB hub to amplify the signals and connect the hub directly into a USB port from the computer. Older, incompatible chipsets may also be an issue and may involve upgrading the BIOS.
This is what I encountered using my Printer to a Dell computer. Hope this help. But what's interesting though is that its asking you to reload the software for printer. Can you recall the exact error message? pls update me for further evaluation.
