Connecting Wirelessly with Cable Internet Provider

My ISP is TWC and they furnished me an Arris TM520G which connects to my laptop. Can I use a 2wire model 2701HG-B so that I can access the internet wirelessly?

When I called the ISP, they wanted to charge me $9.95 a month more plus installation of a wireless modem.

I had a Linksys Router and had success with that. We recently moved and it took a while to come across the router.

    Thanks!

Open your Internet browser.
Type http://gateway.2wire.net/setup into the browser's address line.
You should see your key on the setup page.

Back-Up Key Codes

In most cases, you will receive a key code from your ISP. This key code is used to activate the 2Wire gateway. If you did not receive a key code, you can use the key codes provided in the following table.

If your Internet Service Provider did not provide you with

a user name, password, or IP address to set up your

Internet connection, your broadband connection most

likely uses DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)

and you should use this key code.

52EU-2374-2262-22AT-B222

If your Internet Service Provider gave you a PPPoE

username and password to set up your Internet

connection, your broadband connection uses Point-to-

Point Protocol over Ethernet and you should use this key

code.

52EU-2374-6262-22AS-B22Y

If your Internet Service Provider assigned you an IP

address to set up your Internet connection, your

broadband connection uses static IP (Internet Protocol)

and you should use this key code.

52EU-2374-2E66-22AS-B2TW

If your Internet Service Provider gave you a PPPoA

username and password to set up your Internet

connection, your broadband connection uses Point-to-

Point Protocol over ATM. In this case, you would use this

key code and Microsoft Dial-up Networking to connect to

the Internet.

No connnection and only power light is steady with ds light blinking

1.Log into router. Using either 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 in a browser window that is ( internet Explorer or Firefox). If you have a yellow flashing light at the "INT" or Cable then you will have to check with your ISP to check connectivity to your router.
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off) ( router status window)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address. This set up in the "security tab" in the router. using 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 to access through a browser.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.
8. check for firmware update at the manufacturers site for your model router
9. cell phones, cordless phones, digital TV's, can affect the data signal from a router. Also distance from the router can be a factor. If your router is in a basement place the router to a upper floor and center it in the room.

Why does my computer say LAN is not connected but my ethernet cable is plugged in?

1. You possibly have lost the IP address from the ISP to your router and you will need to release/ renew the IP or you have a damaged Ethernet cord ( rare) but none the less could be damaged.
2. unplug the Ethernet cord from the connection at the wall for a few seconds and then plug it back in the wall connector.
Then try your connection. Call your ISP ( internet service Provider) and check the line to see if you have proper signal to the router.

Further instructions:
1.Log into router
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop/desktop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.

Hi John
Can you actually connect to the router or is it the router not connecting to the internet? (2 completely different things)
The access code from the ISP may be the code to connect the router to the exchange.
When setting up routers it is often more straightforward if you connect the computer to the router with an ethernet cable. This removes one area where many people appear to get confused.
Once the connection is all configured, remove the ethernet cable and use the wireless connection.
The routine is usually as follows. Connect the router to the phone system using whatever is provided by the ISP. Connect the computer to one of the router's ethernet ports with an ethernet cable. Power up the router and wait.
The router then goes through a routine of its own which can take as long as 5 minutes sometimes. Once the router has synchronised to the exchange, (all the lights that come on have stopped flashing) you can then go through the set-up routine as detailed in the box with the router.
Some routers come pre-configured by the ISP and are ready to use as soon as they have synchronised. However, if you have bought a router from a computer shop it will not be configured and you have to do that yourself. It is normally nothing more than entering your network identity (as provided by the ISP) and the password they have also provided.
Once that is done and you have a solid connection to the internet (i.e. Google works) then check the wireless side.
Please note. No CDs have been used in any of the above operations.

I am unable to connect with my wireless laptop

With an Ethernet cable, connect the "wired" port on your laptop to one of the "wired" ports on your router.

Access the router's built-in web-server, and run the "Wireless Networking Setup Wizard", to configure your wireless network.

Call your ISP (Internet Service Provider) -- if they provided the 2WIRE modem to you, they can help you configure it.
