Curlyjoe,

I know this post is old, but I'll take a chance...MAC Photo was a subsidiary of MAC Sports (www.macsports.com). They dropped the MAC Photo brand, and no longer service MAC Photo products. I e-mailed the company to verify.
I also needed some parts for my MLT-360 tripod. I found a complete one on ebay. Now I use my old one for spare parts. If you still have yours and would like to get rid of it, recommend you list it on ebay.
Good hunting, RTB

Need a replacement plate mount

This is a problem, but if you have a camera shop in your area, I suggest you consult with them. I haven't had any luck doing this previously because there are so many different quick release mechanisms and the sizes vary and they look exactly the same. If the shop can't help, go online to Samsonite and try for a replacement from them. If you don't know what it even looks like...you're in big doo doo, but if you do know then you can find them by the look and then measure the sides and the distance from top to bottom (which tells you how big the slot needs to be). The problem there is that many of them are not listed by size but by the part number. If you can get that, it's much easier to look for one. I know....it's ridiculous! for such a little but very significant piece of the tripod. Good Luck

I have a Samsonite tripod with a quick release plate. Is it possible to get another head? one that has a screw so that cameras can be threaded onto it?

Try www.TripodQuickRelease.com for that part. There is listed the widest selection of quick releases and support more brands than any other web site I've seen. Because your tripod is not supported by the manufacturer; parts lists and pars are not available, you should measure the opening and see what other brand quick releases will work paying attention to the shape and locking mechanism. Otherwise just get another tripod.

Where can I find a quick release plate for the Samsonite 2601 tripod?

Try http://www.tripodquickrelease.com/Generic_Tripods.htm for that part. There is listed the widest selection of quick releases and support more brands than any other web site I’ve seen. Since the tripod is unknown they are the best bet.

It sounds like the bolt is not theading into the camcorder nut far enough. don't go more than a 1/2 inch up into the nut however. You might need a longer shoe bolt.
