The bad news is that this would cost about $1000 to get fixed

The good news is that Sony knows about the problem and is willing to fix it for free

Open a support case with Sony. If they determine (or are willing to admit) that this is an optical block issue, they should replace or repair it free of charge.

This is a known issue with Sony's rear projection televisions. The trick is getting them to stand behind their product!

My Sony Grand Wega LCD TV currently has a large blue spot on the left side of the screen when powered on. I have changed the lamp, but this did not solve the problem. Could this be caused by bad component...

Hi,
I'm afraid, it is problem of optics unit block (light engine), there are 3 LCDs red-green-blue for color picture formation and blue LCD sounds bad, please call local TV tech for fix.
Thanks.

Mine has it too. Tech told me its dust on the "LCD" sometimes they work them selves out.
Try vacuuming the back side of the tv, and continue to do so at least once every 3 months.

Sony Grand Wega KDF-E050A10

Authorized sony repair center told me the problem was the Q Box. Ever heard of this? Part runs about 300 bucks. TV is out of warrenty as it is 2 years old. Do you think it is worth it to fight sony and get them to replace the part or just fix the TV?

Part Number is A1167541A, service rep called it a Q Box in the diag, however the web says its the b block assmy.

read this if you think it's the same problem
