I have a Creative Zen Micro MP3 Player. When it tries to start up it shows the copyright screen and then Creative logo ,then freezes and the back lighting goes off. I have tried starting in recovery mode. I get the screen with the options and can select them but nothing happens and the lighting goes off.My PC cannot see the player when plugged in. Can you help. You can reset your player if it exhibits any of the following symptoms.

  • Stops responding at the Creative or ZEN logo
  • Freezes or hangs at Building Library
  • Displays an error when it is not attached to a PC
  • The LCD display is blank
  • Does not power on at all.
For players with a removable battery, remove the battery and wait for 5 seconds, and then insert the battery again. For players with a built-in battery, push a pin-like object (for example, a straightened paper clip) into the reset hole, press gently and remove.
Some players have one reset hole as well as a built-in microphone. DO NOT insert any object into the microphone.
I have a Creative Zen - zen_20gb_reset1.jpg If the player continues to freeze or fail to respond after a player reset, it is possible that the music library or some files are corrupt. It will be necessary to boot your player into its recovery mode (rescue mode), "clean up" the music library to remove broken links, or format it.
For specific instructions on how to access the Recovery Mode of an MP3 player, please refer to Knowledge Base article SID 4794.
It is recommended that you try these operations in the following sequence: reboot the player; clean up and reboot; format and reboot; and finally, reload the player's firmware.
  • Clean Up: It is the least destructive operation. It scans a player's hard disk and removes any invalid links from the music library. It does not affect music files themselves. It is recommended that you perform "Clean Up" first before formatting or reloading the player's firmware. It is recommended that you clean up regularly if you frequently transfer files between a PC and your player.
  • Format All: It is the same as a Windows format performed in a PC, and consequently all contents will be lost after a format.
  • Reload Firmware: Reloads the player's firmware (Operating System). It will also format the player. It requires the player be connected to a PC. Select this option ONLY if you have access to a PC and firmware available to install.
  • Reboot: Reboots the player. You can reboot the player after performing a clean-up or format, or reboot it without performing neither of them.

Sound more like a hardware side problem, might also be a fault in software / firmware.

If you still have warranty it will save you, but since you have tryed to start in recovery mode already and noting happens it sounds more like a hardware problem.

I would take the mp3 in for service.

ofcourse there are a few things we could try,
repeatedly connecting and disconnecting the player from your pc and from difrent usb ports might solve the problem with pc not detecting it, check your device manager

start -> right click my computer -> manage -> on left side, device manager, open up the usb category and look what disapears and if you see anything with ! sign

also you can try to uninstall your usb ports (right click uninstall on all usb devices) and then reboot the pc and let it reinstall the ports.

let me know if you need more assistance.

Zen Micro Photo...freezes at Creative Logo

The microdrive is bad. Unfortunately you now have a brick. Microdrives are pretty expensive; you're best bet it to buy another MP3 player.

Zen Micro

Sounds like it may be the index in your Music Library. Try going into Recovery Mode; remove battery, hold power switch to ON, replace battery, release power switch when the Recovery Mode screen appears on the screen. Run Option 1 CleanUP, after it completes run Option 4 Restart. You will get a Rebuilding Library screen when it reboots, that's normal, then it should go back to your startup screen. Good luck and let us know what happened
