Check power adapter’s DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.
If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

Charging port is not working

You need to replace the port (it cost around $50). Before you do it, please test the laptop with the good working AC adapter (because probably, the AC adapter is not working properly).

Hp dv5 not charging or booting up

Try this,

remove the battery and try with the ac adapter. Generally we trying to see if its battery or ac problem. Laptop should start cause the source of the power is the 120v electricity converted for laptop use through the adapter.

If its still not starting, then its adapter issue, just buy another one from a local computer store or amazon according the model of the laptop

When you connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? If not then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's power socket could be faulty. have you tried a different adapter? have you unplugged the battery and plugged it back in? take the battery out completely and make sure that the metal prongs on the PC where it connects haven't gotten bent somehow

My laptop is not charging. it says 0% available (plugged in, not charging) plz help i have a stock hp pavilion dv5

Ifthe laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall. ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. Ifthe battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to bereplaced.

There must be a problem in the wiring of your adapter.Get it checked by a professional to avoid permanent damage to your laptop and adaptor. And if its not charging the laptop,it means that there is no proper supply from the adaptor to your laptop.

Hp dv5-1002 laptop will not turn on. I've tried removing the battery. but wont turn on at all.

This could be because of a loos RAM. I would suggest you to take the laptop to the HP Pavilion Service Center. And If the issues is same as what I suspected, then the service center might be able to fix this issue in just 10 minutes and they might not even charge you for this. Please note, only go to the authorized HP service center.

Hi, I have a HP pavilion dv5000 and the lap top isn't reading the power chord. Don't know if it's the power port or connector. When I have it plunged in the charging light blinks and when i don't have it...

If you have a multi-meter, check the power output on the adapter. If it's putting out the correct voltage (about 18 volts, as I recall), then it's the computer. If the voltage is not right, then replace the adapter.
Hint: don't buy the adapter from the computer company. It'll cost too much. Use a reputable supplier of parts like this.
