Question about Combination Televisions

Digital signage I work in a small library and have been attempting to cost effective digital signage. Many I have come across are either out or our price range, or if it is within, there are no reviews I can access to get a sense of the reliability and dependability of the product. I wanted to reach out and see if anyone knew of a cost effective digital signage solution I might look into (reviews would be great!) I am looking for something that will simply loop .jpg or other types of image files and I dont care if the system is an all-in-one solution or one which connects to a TV or monitor. Just need something reliable and preferably below the $800 threshold (if there are any at all??) Thanks

Firstly the screen went blank after about 5 mins the sound went and then I heard a bang like a fuse going I have checked the fuse but it is o.k. I have also checked the plug & socket and they are both...

From your description the high voltage transformer has gone along with several small parts causing a cascade effect, depending on make and the size of screen will determine the cost to repair. I would suggest an estimate before you consider a repair, because my feeling is the cost will be high.

Eventually, sometimes after a few minutes, the TV will flip to DVD mode and stay that way. No one has touched the TV or the remote. What is causing this? Can it be fixed?

Replace the system memory IC. It has been damaged. This IC is a small one, having 8 solder terminals, and wont cost more thatn $4. It can be located very near to the main system IC. Eventhough it is very small, the function of it with the tV circuit when the tV works is great. When replacing it, insist on same type and number. Its number will be printed on its top.
I thinks that I've made a clear indication about the fault to your Tv.
Please don't hesitate to rate this solution.
Best of luck.

Thin white horizontal line across otherwise black screen

CAUTION: To prevent damage to the CRT phosphors, immediately turn down the brightness so the line is just barely visible. If the user controls do not have enough range, you will have to locate and adjust the master brightness or screen/G2 pots.

A single horizontal line means that you have lost vertical deflection. High voltage is most likely fine since there is something on the screen.

This could be due to:

Dirty service switch contacts. There is often a small switch located inside on the main board or perhaps accessible from the back. This is used during setup to set the color background levels. (On some sets, this is located on the CRT neck board and may be a jumper plug or other means of selecting service mode - not an actual switch.)

When moved to the 'service' position, it kills vertical deflection and video to the CRT. If the switch somehow changed position or got dirty or corroded contacts, you will have this symptom. Flip the switch back and forth a couple of times. If there is some change, then replace, clean, resolder, or even bypass it as appropriate.

Bad connection to deflection yoke or other parts in vertical output circuit. Bad connections are common in TVs and monitors. Check around the pins of large components like transformers, power transistors and resistors, or connectors for hairline cracks in the solder. Reseat internal connectors. Check particularly around the connector to the deflection yoke on the CRT.

Bad vertical deflection IC or transistor. You will probably need the service manual for this and the following. However, if the vertical deflection is done with an IC, the ECG Semiconductor Master Substitution guide may have its pinout which may be enough to test it with a scope.

Other bad parts in vertical deflection circuit though there are not that many parts that would kill the deflection entirely.

Loss of power to vertical deflection circuits. Check for blown fusable resistors/fuses and bad connections.

Loss of vertical oscillator or vertical drive signals.

The most likely possibilities are in the deflection output stage or bad connections to the yoke.
Hope it works well...

Line across the tv no sound no picture

If you look carefully at teh line it should be red, green, and blue close together to appear like a white line. If this is the case, then the vertical circuit has failed. This is often poor solder connections at the vertical IC or a defective IC. Expect a parts cost in the $20 range for this repair.

I have sound, but no picture. A bright horizontal line appears across the TV screen, again, no picture ?

Thanks for using FixYa. Heat is the number one enemy of electronics, and these sets operate hot. This problem is caused by the power supply being overloaded. This is often caused by failed convergence ICs. The safety circuitry shuts the TV set down when it detects a problem. Some parts for this TV will be hard to impossible to find. This model of TV has over 3,000 parts which include millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits. Over time the capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. This will cause other components to become defective. This can has a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again since if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced. The typical cost to get this fixed by a pro is about $300 - and it doesn't mean that he/they will do a job better than you do. The parts are less than $100 (about $20-$30 for the IC's) if you want to do it yourself. Replacing only the IC's MAY solve the problem; however, many people have also had blown resistors requiring replacement. Why would you ask should you replace both of the IC's if only one is shot?! If one is shot the other one is not far away and for that little price of the chips it worth changing them both at the same time. Also the convergence board should be checked for cracked solder. If you replace the ICs and the resistors are shot, the ICs may blow again almost immediately, meaning you may have to do the repair twice.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Need code for my comcast remote

Comcast says that if the codes listed in the instruction brochure provided with the remote (10236 and 10463 for Broksonic) don't work, you should code 991 into the remote and then press the CH+ button repeatedly in order to search through the library of installed IR codes until the TV turns off, then press SET once to lock the code. This worked fine for me, although I must admit I had to press the CH+ button well over 100 times until I came across the proper code in the library to turn the TV off. Unfortunately, there is no way to know what 5 digit code this represents so that if I need to reprogram the remote in the future, I will need to go through the same time-comsuming process all over again.

White horizontal lines at top of picture

Yes, definitely worth fixing. The problem lies in the vertical deflection voltage-doubler circuit. The usual fault is a single capacitor of 100uF/35V that has failed. It is normally connected to a rectifier diode right at the vertical IC. Replacing the capacitor (no more than USD4.00 in price) usually gets it working perfectly again. If you are finicky around technical work, then a reputable local repair shop in your locality should do it quickly for you and charge only labour.

Jvc dvd and video recorder

You have a bad gear or mode switch on the loading mechanism or in the main transmission drive gear. If it is not that old, perhaps it is under the warranty? If not, I'm afraid to have this unit service would not be cost effective. Good Luck

Picture color hue problem

By description it seems your set lost what is known as luminance and is processing only the color information, there is really no easy way to repair this problem without being involved in measuring some voltages and checking some components with a volt meter, there is a video processing IC and some of its functions are to process the video from all sources,an squematic is needed to check and follow the video signal, you can get the service manual at and the cost should be around 20.00 dollars if you downloaded it.If you are familiar with tv service you now have a place to check but if you are not too familiar and because the nature of the problem you should seek the assistance from a servicer.Let Us know how it goes and if you need more information.
