I have a Motorola SURFboard Gateway SBG6580 modem. I want to use the wireless for my DS lite but it says that I need an WEP key, but I don't know how to enable it. Help!

Your wireless is set up with a password. You need to get that password before you can connect any more devices. From a computer that can connect to the internet go to 192.168.0.1. Then type admin for the username and motorola for the password. I believe from there you click Wireless then click Primary Network. You should see your wireless network name and password from there. I'm getting this from the modems manual here: http://www.midcocomm.com/_files/files/SBG6580.pdf

We have forgotten our wifi network password. We have a Motorola surboard cable modem but I dont see any wireless router. Is that possible? If so, do we need to reset the modem password? help.

hi,
yes this has built in wireless the thing sticking up in the back is it's antenna.
if you have a machine wired directly to the modem you could then browse it by its IP. usually something like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 there is a default ID =admin and password=motorola..see page 12..http://broadband.motorola.com/noflash/customer_docs/user_guides/506705-001.pdf
if you can't get in you would have to use the hard reset feature described page 15

GL
hope this helps

What wireless is compatible to a motorola modem

Any wireless router should be compatible with your modem. Some are as easy to set up as only plugging the cables in the right jacks and you are done.

Just make sure your Motorola is configured to stay connected 24/7, and instead of plugging it to your computer, plug it to the router. Generally, the routers don't need to be configured.

I have the old cable modem SB4200 and my internet is way to slow. i was wondering if i can update the firmware or something

home upgrades of firmware for cable modems can get quite technical and even land you in trouble with your ISP.

You may want to start by doing a full cleanup on your computer first and doing a few anti spyware scans with such as "MBAM"

Also double check how your network is set up if you have more than one computer on the system.

Take a look at those pages too in case anything there is useful in your situation.

Motorola MSTATEA takes long time to "reconnect"

Check the speed and call ISP tech support to run the line test
Before calling them do a complete power cycle
Turn the modem off and the computer off and router if any
Wait for 30 seconds and turn the modem on and wait for the lights to turn solid
Once ready turn router if you have else computer
Delete the temporary internet files browsing cookies, cache memory.
If the modem turns too hot after running for an hour please replace the modem
DSL light blinking green indicates that there s no proper signal to the modem
Check the wall jack for any loose contacts
If you have any filter check them too
Isolate them and try with it
Change them if possible

No internet connection by using the ethernet cable

Unplug the power to the modem and the USB cable. Plug in Ethernet cable in computer and plug in the modem. Wait for WAN side of the modem to connect and stabilize. If your PC is already on, you should see the network connection appear in the task bar (if it's configured to show up). Open a command prompt. Type 'ping 192.168.1.1' and press Enter. You should get 4 ping responses from the modem which indicates that you LAN connection to the modem is functional.

Let me know if this doesn't work and I'll guide you through other methods to get it working.

Is it possible

Hi, yes it is possible but it is not a good solution. If you are using Windows XP try configuring network using network wizard to configure as "this computer connects to the internet through another computer".
This setting does not always work straight away as you usually have to set up firewall.
AWith this set up the computer connected to the modem will act as a proxy, repeating the signal on the other computer.
This solution will make navigation slower, force you to keep low firewall defences.
Best thing to do is buying a modem or modem router and build network using a router.
