I hope you mean you fitted a new DVD drive into your console. All games are in DVD format and if the replacement drive can not read and detect dual layer DVD's then they will not be able to see any of the games you put in.
Interesting. Not all Xbox 360s use the same type DVD drive. There are at least 3 different brands - Benq, Samsung, and Hatachi. There are various ways of determining this, besides opening the Xbox 360. Based on the drive type, there are different versions of firmware(the software on the drive that communicates with the Xbox 360). Some firmware modifications Microsoft doesn't want consumers to know because it allows the playing of cloned dvds.
go into system settings, memory, and see if it detects the device/storage. the drive may need Formatting.
alternatively try a Memory Card Unit.
On ocassions the 360 may have to update from the gamedisk.
Follow any onscreen Prompts.
This is 99% always the case when your dvd drive is going out. You can find a replacement on ebay for under $15. Video tutorials can be found on youtube just by typing "xbox 360 laser replacement" Replace the laser and you won't have this problem anymore.
Your DVD-ROM is probably faulty you need help with this one as they are locked to the individual xbox and not interchangable with another one so buying them on ebay definatly wont save you only if you have experience to extract the code and inject it into the new one
usually the lazors die in them or if your lucky it may need a good clean (the Eye) also I found sometimes the motor seizes in them Hope this helps usually to replace the rom is around $100 to $150 AUD here sorry I dont know where you are Mark
The box isn't loading the decoder softwarer for the Disc. The Xbox discs are encoded HD DVD-ROM discs, and the box needs to recognize them so it can load the decoder software. It probably says "play dvd" on the xbox dashboard right?
Get A New DVD drive.
I,d suggest That Your Laser is,nt kicking up the required Voltage To read The dual-Layers ?
X-Box games Are single Layer DVD. 360s Are Dual Layer ( DL )
Also try An Original Or Over 5 gig DVD ( Thats most likely to Be Dual Layer )
