To replace the ADF pickup/roller assembly on a Brother MFC-L8900cdw printer, follow these steps:
Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power outlet.
Open the automatic document feeder (ADF) cover and remove any paper from the feeder.
Locate the ADF pickup/roller assembly. It is located underneath the ADF cover and consists of a set of rollers that are used to feed paper into the printer.
Use a small screwdriver to remove the screws that secure the ADF pickup/roller assembly in place.
Carefully lift the ADF pickup/roller assembly out of the printer.
Install the new ADF pickup/roller assembly by aligning it with the mounting holes and securing it in place with the screws.
Close the ADF cover and plug the printer back in.
Turn the printer on and test the ADF to make sure it is functioning properly.
If you are having difficulty replacing the ADF pickup/roller assembly or if the problem persists after replacing it, it may be necessary to have the printer serviced by a professional. A technician will be able to diagnose the problem and determine the necessary repairs.
Mostl likely is that the separation pad in the ADF assembly is worn. If you go to the HP parts store at HP.com you can purchase an ADF maintenance kit that will fix this problem. It is an easy install that only requires a #1 phillips screwdriver.
Try opening up the LEFT side of the ADF. Takes a little finger muscle to do this. Clean the rollers with a clean cloth, and check to see that there is nothing lodged in the mechanism (staples, loose paper bits, mother-in-laws, etc). Also, there is a limit to how many sheets the ADF can take at once - I haven't maxed mine out, so I don't know how many sheets is the maximum allowed.
The first thing I always do to a misbehaving ADF is take a dust blaster(canned air) and blow all of the dust and debris out of the ADF,This means lifting the ADF cover and cleaning everywhere. There is always a switch or sensor whose job it is to detect a sheet of paper placed in the ADF.Good Luck.
Do you "fan" your paper when you fill the machine? paper will adhere together, unless you " grab any corner of the fill, pull towards that same corner to allow air to get between the sheets.
Here's a link to the full service manual for your HP 3055. It's too large to post here (15MB) but I've hot linked it for you so you can download it to resolve your issue with the ADF. Look at pages 44 thru 46. Pay special attention to the rubber pad (separation pad) that is under the 2 roller peice as it is what keeps the doc feeder pulling one sheet at a time.
Hope that helps you. If so hit me with a FIXYA, If not send me a message or reply and I'll try and walk you through it.
