Interface wont work with microphone

I have a problem with the actual preamp, it's installed and my speakers work and everything, but when i try to record it doesn't pick up any sound and when i turn up the volume slightly on the preamp, it just makes this high pitched sound, but even then when i try to record, it doesn't pick up sound. My mic is on and everything; i use a AKG perception 400, and i use COOL EDIT PRO to record; i changed the settings so it records from the preamp, but still, i get nothing...how do i fix this??

I want to use my rode NT1-A on my laptop. how do i do so?

you need a recording interface (with phantom power if the mic requires that - most condensor mics need phantom power) to go from the mic to the interface, then to the computer. There are many USB recording interfaces - some easy plug and play interfaces include:

http://www.amazon.com/ART-Project-Series-Microphone-Preamp/dp/B000K6B59Y/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1334413603&sr=8-8

Then on your computer you need an application such as audacity (if windows), cubase, sonar, logic, pro tools, or any other audio recording app that will allow you to record and edit tracks. From there, you can install many different plugins or apps that can process the audio and add effects to the tracks like reverb, delay, distortion, etc.

My U87 microphone won't power up...no signal. does anyone know why this may be happening?

Was it working fine before it stopped powering up? The U87 is a condenser microphone so maybe the reason it is not powering up is because the phantom power on your interface was not turned on. Plug the U87 into your preamp and then switch on the phantom power (48V) to get it powered up. If that doesn't help, there must be an internal fault within the microphone or in your preamp.

I have tried running my AT2035 through a preamp and direct into my interface and am having the same issues with an extremely blanketed & muffled sound on vocals and instruments. Originally thought...

This mic has a 10db pad or attenuator switch at the base of the barrel maybe you clicked it on by mistake,
Try changing the lead.
The power supply on you preamp may be failing or had the voltage selector also clicked to the wrong setting.
These are cheap things to try before spending money.

This mic has a 10db pad or attenuator switch near the bottom of the barrel... make sure you haven't accidentally engaged it.

If that's not.... it try changing the lead. Also the power supply on your preamp could be failing.
These are a few cheap things to try before spending money for fixing.

Do this work for mixcraft

If you are refering to the softwar Mixcraft, then yes. Combined with a suitible Mixer or Preamp connected to your computer's sound card, or an External Audio Interface with build in Preamp, you will be able to record with the NT1-A.

Your Mixer/Preamp/Interface needs to be capable of providing the mic with Phantom power to operate.

Skype microphone

When you are installing the skype software, there comes a time when skype will offer you the option to test your hardware. Here you will try out the speakers and mic, and skype will tell you if they are in skype accepted order.
My friend actually installed it not too long ago, and after the install, I saw that skype gave him the option to make a test call right on the program interface window. We used it, and it made a call to a skype computer voice which advised us that if we could hear her talking, then our speakers are fine, and to now go ahead and speak into our mic, if the mic is working we will be able to hear what we just said into it.
That was a great little way to make sure our speakers and mic were in fact working, and they were.
Try that out on your pc and your friend's pc to test components individually. If you are unable to find the test call option, or the option to test components, you can uninstall skype and reinstall the latest version, which may not be a bad idea to preclude any other weird problems which may be at fault.
Hope that helps.

Emu1616m/ acid pro 5 sync problem I have used the Emu 1616m(soundcard) with acid pro 5 on a Sony Vaio Laptop(windows XP) for over a year. I have periodically taken out the soundcard following the simple remove hardware procedure, everytime working properly when loading it back up. The most recent time putting the card back in and turning on the laptop, all the ports were gone. What I mean by ports is all my inputs, micline inputs, Aux In, 1L1R, ect, ect...everything i would normally use to plug in my speakers, mixer, keyboard, mic, ect ect.... Gone....what i Mean is: when i pressed record on Acid Pro 5, a window would pop up showing me the feedback, and record device, when pressing the down arrow on the record device there would normally be a long list of all the inputs available on the emu 1616m. This is my problem, the inputs and all are gone and no matter what i do i can' t get them back. I tried the obvious stuff, going into the sound audio devices on the pc, going into the preferences on acid. I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong, i might have messed up the ASIO on the pc, but thought i had it back to how it was. I even tried restoring back to an original date, and know i can't even bring up the patchmix dsp application, it say's i got a missing/corrupt (skin) and may need to re-install. At first I thought this would be a simple fix, I'm sure it is but now its beyond my ability to get things back to the way they were. I record daily as independent artist, and unfortunately rely on this equipment, can somebody please help, it would be much appreciated. Thankyou Sincerely Cory Green
