Hello there.

Your motherboard has 4x Serial ATA connections , as you are using 1 already this means you can add a total of 3 SATA new HDD to the system. Size doesn't really matter but thesedays you should be able to get good value for money on the 200-500GB version of the sata drives.

If you have windows installed already on the existing 40GB, then you can add the new HDD alongside the existing, then in Windows set up the new HDD as a new drive letter, giving you all the free space to save your files on.

Hope this helps.

Hi!
According to your mob specs ( 2 x ATA 133/100/66 IDE connectors ( supports 4 x IDE devices)), it does not support Sata2; however, if you configured your HD to Sata1, then check your FSB and set it to 400MHZ.

I hope this helps; nontheless, I also hope you can exchange the HD to a regular Sata.

Hello seaworld,
I believe your right, think your going to need a new power supply. 430 watts is a little low, but should be able to run this board smoothly even with dual video cards. If you do decide on purchasing a new power supply I would go with a 600 watt 20+4 pin, you might think its over kill but power supplies running at peak output over a long period of time shorten their lifespan. Plus its always good to have room to expand.
Good luck

I want to install 2nd sata hard drive to abit al8-v motherboard

Hi!

Yepp, you'r at the right track, BUT if you want that external disc to be an internal disc you need to take it out its case and put in you pc, Then its easy for your OS to find it. when you done all the inside connections, no need to select master or slave as it is an sata disc, rightclick on your computer, select "handle", the select "diskhandle" almost at the bottom in the new window that opens, now you will see the new disc, rightclick on it, formate it and give a new name(letter)....thats all.

Good luck

I cant install windows xp because of... i dont know!

Here is what you should do, go to a computer store and buy a 40G HD. Try installing on that. It could be the size, but most likly not. Im going to guess and say take a look at the bottom of your reinstall disk. If it has any scratches, there is your problem. NTLDR is your boot sector on you HD.

Sata harddrive

You need to enter the BIOS and check to see if the sata drives are enable cause if there aren't then you'll always get that response and seems as tho you waste your money.

Also you must have the sata drive on primary.
