I don't know how to download cd's and dvd's on dell EL-1210-09

What do you mean download cd's and dvd's? You don't download them, you simply put them in the drive and play them. If you purchased a music cd or a movie dvd that you want to play or watch, then just put it in the drive. The system will recognize it and automatically open Windows Media Player for you to play it or you can open it yourself if autoplay is not active.

Exactly what is it that you are trying to do?

If you are talking about putting a blank cd or dvd into the drive to copy music or a movie to it, that's another story and will take a while to explain. You will basically need to make sure your CD/DvD drive can burn CD's or Dvd's. Then you will need some type of burning software (later versions of Window Media Player will burn).

Click Start/My Computer and look at your devices. if your DvD/CD Drive is listed look for RW which means rewritable (it can burn or copy). If it say DVDrw it can read and write dvd's. If it says CDrw it can read and write cd's. You can also look on the drive door on the computer where you would place the cd or dvd. If it says Rewritable CDrw (it can write cd's) or DvDrw (it can write dvd's). If it says ROM (read only media), that means it can Read Only and not write.

If the drive is rewritable then the software such as Media Player will allow you to go find what you want to put on the cd or dvd. You have two ways of putting things in the software to burn or write. You can copy and paste, or you can drag and drop.

How do I reformat my PC

Your PC may already be set to boot from the CD/DVD Drive as the first drive. If it's not you need to change it to boot from the CD/DVD Drive.

You may have to go in to the Bios to set the first boot device as CD /DVD.
To do that switch on and immediately press the Delete (Del) key or F2 or whatever key it says on the very first screen to enter the Bios.

You might have an option on the first screen to enter a Boot menu instead of the Bios where you can select which drive to boot from.
Sometimes it's F10 or F11 or F12.

When it's set to CD/DVD put the Windows disk in the drive and reboot. Then you should get an an option to "Press any key to boot from the CD DVD" it only lasts about 5 seconds, if you miss it, it will automatically start to load you current version of Windows from the hard drive. If you don't catch it in time just reboot and do it again.
Then follow any other instructions you get as it installs Windows.

I can see the dvd/cd drive but it will not play anything.when I click the drive it keeps asking to insert a disk when I have already put one in?

make sure that the dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or
your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in or
you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device
control panel admistrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you can update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall

hope this helps

The pc wont let me burn the imesh tunes on to cd.it says error.how would i know if i have a re-writer

if the cd has been written to already, you cannot write on it again. If the cd says CD +/- R, then it is not rewritable, look for a CD that says +/- RW. If it doesn't say either of those, a regular cd looks light grey, while a rewritable is usually a lot darker.

CD drive doesnt recognize a dvd

Sorry to say, but a CD drive cannot read DVD's. You need a DVD reader. Thus, the CD drive will not recognize DVD media and tell you no valid disc is in the drive. I recommend buying a DVD RW (reader/writer), as they are inexpensive and enable you to burn DVDs as well as read them.

I have an internal HP DVD Writer 740b that writes on CD but not on DVD. I tried Sony DVD RW and Memorex DVD-RW to copy files on but I failed. I use Nero Essentials to burn. The dialogue box keeps saying no...

DVD-RW drives have 2 different designs, 1 used dual optics, 1 for CD one for DVD, the other uses optics that can refocus between the media types.

If you haven't done so already, flash the firmware of the drive to the latest available from HP.

Assuming that the drive worked with NERO previously, If that doesn't resolve, you will likely need to replace the drive.

If you have not used Nero with that drive for DVD media, you might try a different SW and see if Roxio/Sonic will see DVD media in the drive.

Cd burner

Simple solutions are easiest --

Do you have a combination of two cd and/or dvd devices on you computer?

If so, check to see if you are putting the CD into the correct drive. Often on factory machines the device type will be identified on the cover for the CD tray.
