Canon wont download pics to computer

When i plug in my camera the box comes up saying, select the program to launch for this action, and the box is completely blank.

I went to a friends and downloaded the cd then plugd in the camera and there was nothing wrong with it. it worked fine and downlaoded all the pics within minutes.

I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling both the cam and the cd and its driving me nuts.

any other advice would be much appreciated.

I ran Windows XP repair and Microsoft Office Professional repair and now get choices in the box, but the one I want, Microsoft Picture Manager, is not there.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

As a work-around, you should try using Picasa to download the pictures off of your camera.

Picasa is a free download from Google and has many cutting-edge features for picture management. I think that you'll like it.
  • Download Picasa from their web site (click here) to your Desktop
  • Once the Picasa file has completed downloading, Open the file and follow the directions displayed.
  • Once you have Picasa installed, connect your Olympus camera. Picasa will recognize that you have connected the camera and ask you how you want to proceed.
  • Have Picasa copy the images from your camera
  • You can then use Picasa to handle the photos from your camera.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for using FixYa and Happy New Year!

Use a card reader to download your pictures to a folder you create on your desktop. From there, you can transfer the pictures to any program you wish.

Canon SD100 Powershot Can't download pics

You may have accidently removed the photo programs you were using. Check to see if the software programs are indeed still on your computer by searching by name. If it or they are there , open one of the programs before you connect the camera and it should automatically download.

If they have been removed use the disc that came with your camera to reload the software program.
