Question about HP Photosmart C3180 All-In-One InkJet Printer
I have a ne Hp Photosmart C5180 All in one printer. Installed correctly, it worked for one week. Then for some reason, computer disconnected printer. USB port would not recognize printer. With help of HP help service, ended up uninstalling drivers, entering C prompt window and typing stuff in to make it work. For some reason, USB port had dissappeared. This worked. Printer worked for three weeks, then again printer disconnected, USB port not recognizing printer. This happened after an update patch for XP. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, worked with HP support. USB port still not recognizing hardware. I've given up. Any suggestions as to how to get computer to recognize hardware, USB ports,...keep printer talking to computer for more than three weeks at a time? -- zippyma Everything was working fine All of a sudden I get a message unknown device attached to USB port. I then tried my MP3 player same message. i have tried different cables and different ports. I have un installed printer and reinstalled but this does not fix. Keyboard and mouse are only USB devices that work. If I plug the printer into the USB connection on keyboard it works but it is only USB 1.0 The mp3 will not work in the slower USB port.. How do i get the USB 2.0 ports to recognize mass storage devices?
Your USB ports on your computer are plug and play. If you have issues with your USB port, it is port related, driver related or device related. The following solutions will help you identify the problem to resolve your USB port issues.
To Identify a Working USB Port
Begin troubleshooting your USB ports by checking Device Manager to see if your USB ports or hubs are working properly.
To Update the USB Port Driver
An out-of-date BIOS driver can create issues with your system recognizing the USB port.

I have had a similar problem with a computer, where usb ports would sometimes work fine, then suddenly become erratic. It wasn't until I replaced the computer, new computer, new operating system, new software, and while transfering files over the same thing started happening again - odd!
It turned out to be a white sd / camera card reader which was plugged into a usb port, unplugged it and all was normal again. I would not have guessed a card reader could have upset all the usb ports, but it sure did!

There are few things to remember using USB.
To remove currepted USB drivers its not enough to remove your printer drivers.
I think it will fix.
Please let me know your feed-back.
