Memory stick error

I am getting a memory stick error also, but I don't think is it in the actual memory stick because I have 4 memory sticks, and I can't believe they all went bad at the same time. The camera won't let me format the sticks. When I plug the usb into the computer the camera acts like its plugged into the computer, but the computer doesn't get any info from it.

Previous to this problem the camera would switch between modes randomly.

"No CF card" displayed after resetting camera and replacing card with several cards that function in other devices.  Unable to download images off camera as well.

I also have a Sony CyberShot DSC-F828. I have been using my camera for a strong 6 years with the same memory card (Sony Memory Stick Pro MagicGate 1GB). Has always taken great pictures and only a minor problem where the camera was taking pictures and they were coming out black, (shutter problem) but that was fixed years ago and all of a sudden i was in the middle of taking pictures and after I was messing around the aperture and manual focus I snapped the picture and boom... Memory Stick Error C:13:01... HELP ME!!!

  • cmcdonald Apr 02, 2009

I had the same problem with my DSC-F828. Have used it in a professional manner for about 5 years with no prior problems, then suddenly started getting the C:13:01 memory stick error, regardless of which memory stick I put into the camera. I TURNED IT OFF AND SMACKED THE BOTTOM OF THE BODY AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE PROBLEM IS GONE. BRILLIANT!!!

Crazy alright, but it worked on my F-828 too. The CF card was OK, but the Memory Stick recently threw up the same error.

  • bazzaw1 Apr 09, 2014

Add a Commentthe stick as I could read it fine & it worked in my old DSC-S85. Tok the stick & battery out, gave the camera a couple of whacks on the office desk & away she went.

I too had the "memory stick error" message come up on my camera about 3 weeks ago. I also thought it was a bad memory stick until I stuck my other one in and it gave the same error message. I bought my camera approximately 5 years ago and have never had any problems with it, with the exception of not being able to get good movement shots (sports) in some low lit gym settings. It REALLY did work. I whacked my camera on my steering wheel, turned it on and the error message was gone! It is not a highly recommended solutions for electronical items but what do you have to lose if you can't use it anyway. I certainly wasn't willing to take mine to a repair shop and here them tell me it would cost $100 just to look at it. So go ahead, give it a whack!!

I had the same 'memory error', none of my 4 memory sticks would work, it would not let me reformat, the electronics in this camera have always been a bit buggy and sketchy.
I tried buying a different camera but it doesn't work as well for my art so I had been meaning to take my cyber-shot to a camera repair shop (for nearly a year) when I saw mriceguy's best solution and decided to give it a bang ..... AND IT WORKS!!! Tears came to my eyes in disbelief.
I used it today, and will be using it all day tomorrow.

Per sony the F828 can only handle up to a 4gb memory stick............... I found this out after I bought an 8gb stick and got the error listed here. I emailed sony and sadly the 8 gb won't work with F828.

This is a formatting error on the memory stick. Try to format it in the camera - if that doesn't work, plug it into a computer and format it with FAT-32 format for DOS. That should do the trick.

If it doesn't work, then there is a physical problem with your MS (it happens, sadly) - try using a different one!

Good luck,

When I switch it on, I get this error: Memory Stick error C 13:01 camera Sony cyber shot DSC-P73

Hello and Welcome to Fixya
C:13:01 memory stick error message indicates a Self diagnostic message. In C:13:01 the issue may be with the Internal Memory or with the Memory Stick.
To solve it try the following solutions

Format error with the Internal Memory which can be corrected by formatting the Internal Memory.
If it is issue with memory stick then turning the power off and on again or taking out and inserting the "Memory Stick" several times may help in resolving the issue. Error may be because of Unformatted "Memory Stick" which can be resolved by formatting the Memory Stick in the Camera If it not remove by formatting in the camera then connect it to PC and tried to format it again but either FAT instead of FAT32 which is the regular format and then reinserted the memory stick and formatted it with the camara. Now it will be solved if it still exist then it means Memory Stick is broken or not compatible which can be resolved by inserting a new compatible Memory stick
I hope it will help you
Your Rating as Four Thumbs which are given below to this solution will appreciate me
Thanks

Says error on formatting memory card.

Hi,
The camera may display a FORMAT ERROR if the inserted media is not formatted or if the media was formatted on a computer. This error may also display if the inserted media is not supported by the camera.
Try to remove and re-insert the Memory Stick media several times.
Make sure that the inserted Memory Stick media is compatible with the camera. DSCW310 Camera is compatible with the Memory Stick Pro Duo upto 32 GB.
You may also try formatting the Memory Stick media to resolve the issue. Format the Memory Stick media using the FORMAT option in the camera menu.
Formatting will erase all stored data, images, movies, etc., from the Memory Stick media. FORMAT option is available in the Memory Card Tool Menu of the Camera which is in the Settings Menu. Please back up the data by inserting the Memory Stick in the Computer Memory Card slot.
This may also happen if the terminals on the Memory Stick media are dirty. Remove the Memory Stick media from the camera and use a soft dry cloth or pencil eraser to clean the contacts. Make sure there are no residual particles on the Memory Stick media before re-inserting it into the camera.
The data on the Memory Stick media or the Memory Stick media itself is damaged. Try using a different Memory Stick media in the camera.
This should resolve the issue. If the error continues to display, the media may need to be replaced or the camera may require service.

Hi I have a sony cyber shot camera when i tried to ON it The memory stick error appears saying " INSERT MEMERY STICK" inspite of memery stick is inserted also i get this error. And when i tried to format it...

Hi,

The Reinsert Memory Stick error message appears when the inserted Memory Stick is corrupted or not in a correct Format. This issue can be resolved by trying the steps mentioned below:
  • Remove and re-insert the Memory Stick in the Camera.
  • Check if the inserted Memory Stick is compatible with the Camera.
  • Format the Memory Stick in the Camera. Do not Format the Memory Stick in the Computer, as this will damage the Memory Stick being used in the Camera. The Camera will not detect the Memory Stick again, if it is formatted in the Camera.
  • Clean the terminals of the Memory Stick by using a soft dry cloth.
  • Remove the Memory Stick from the Camera and check if the Internal Memory is working fine.

You may also try power resetting the Camera. Power resetting can be done by removing the batteries from the Camera and then press and hold the POWER BUTTON of the Camera for 15 seconds and then reinsert the batteries after 1 minute.

If the issue persists, service may be required.

Thanks,

KenSolutions

13:01 error

Hi,

The C:13:01 error code indicates the issue with the Media used in the Camera.

This may be due to the:
Format Error of the Internal Memory.
Un-formatted Memory Stick Duo.
Broken Memory Stick Duo.
Memory Stick Duo type error.
When the Camera cannot Read or Write the data in the Memory Stick Duo.

This can be resolved by Formatting the Internal Memory and Memory Stick Duo.
If not resolved, try inserting a new Memory Stick Duo which is supported.
Try power resetting, remove and reinsert the Memory Stick etc.

This will resolve the issue, if not the Camera may require service.

Memory stick error

Try using another memory stick, or insert a confirmed good memory stick, if OK, the memory stick is defective, if the same error, try pressing reset at the back of camera, a small hole beside the the DC jack. if OK, then fine, if still the same, camera needs repair. thanks
