Question about Fuji FinePix S9000 Zoom Digital Camera

1 Answer

Evil flash there is either something wrong with my flash or the light meter, but 99% of the time when i go to take a picture, the flash goes off. hood up or down, it doesn't matter. it seems that the only time the flash doesn't go off is in extremely bright light, i called customer support and was basically told to send it away for a million years to have it repaired, but is there possibly a more simple solution?

It appears that there is something wrong with the sensor that senses when the pop-up flash is up or down. Try cleaning the whole area with compressed air, especially the little gaps in the mechanism. The part that is defective costs next to nothing, but it's extremely fiddly to replace, and that is why it might take a while.

If it's still in warrantee, it may be worth getting it repaired anyway - you don't want to fix it yourself and then have the problem come back after the warranty runs out!

Good luck.

The blinking light may be telling you the picture you want is out of the camera's range. You may have to increase the ISO, shoot at a slower shutter speed, or open the lens aperture.

Try cleaning the contacts on the lens and camera body where they meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

When ever i take a picture, the orange light turns on acting like its going to take a picutre but it doesnt. When i take it off flash, it takes the picture.

The orange light blinking means the flash is charging, once the light goes off you can go ahead take picture with flash. Your light keeps blinking because the flash is not ready.
Try with fully charged batteries. If it won’t work, you may have an open fuse or something wrong with the flash circuit.

Wanting to use add on flash

The "error 99" is a general error on Canon cameras meaning "something's gone wrong and I don't know what to do about it". If you get them all the time, the camera is effectively dead and must go back to Canon for a service repair (circa £175 if I remember correctly).

If the error 99 only happens when you try to pop up the flash, but otherwise the camera can take good pictures, then yes, an external flash unit could well solve your problem. With an external flash on the hot-shoe, the internal flash is completely bypassed and the camera will never try to pop it up.

I recommend taking your camera to a shop such as Jessops and ask to try out a flash gun to be sure.

Getting "busy" display on all modes except no-flash mode...

The "Busy" code will be on when the camera trys to use a flash and waiting for its charging action. Upon completion of charging the mechanism returns a signal to the camera to fire the shutter.

That means now your camera has something wrong on the flash unit and the camera waits for some certain time frame to finally determine it cannot complete a photo-taking command.

An "ERR 99" denotes that this kind of error has not been encorded explicitly and needs investigation services.

Washed out pictures

I would check to see if you have set the exposure compensation and/or flash compensation to a high setting and forgot to put it back to zero.
Good luck.

Error 99 only when flash pops up

I know what you two are talking about. I ordered a Canon EOS 300d from a site called "Keh" and I had never used one before... so I get it in the mail on time. The camera works fine for a few minutes then I get an "error 99" and can't do jack with the camera. I researched online and even called keh ... I read and heard that it has to do with the lens... so I sen't the camera back and got my money.
