Question about Mitsubishi WD-62927 62" HDTV

2yr old DLP TV flashes for few mins then has red tinge

First the set starts to flash and I see duplicate images offset to the right of the original image during the flashes. After a few minutes the blinking subsides and the color problem starts and everything is red tinged as if I've lost a color on the wheel. It sometimes helps running a fan at the back of the set, but tonight the problem happened frequently but the air behind the set was not even warm. I have to reset the tv by pressing the reset button to get the color back but times like tonight it happens again within 10 mins. Other days it can go a long time before problems.

Thanks as soon as the problem repeats I will check on the menus. FYI, I did check other sources while the problem was happening to isolate the issue and all input sources display the problem - standard DVD, HD directv receiver and HD antenna sources. I will also attach a video showing the flashing and ghosting.

The problem occurred quite quickly tonight after I turned off the extra fan I have behind the TV to cool it. I opened the input source selection menu and it does flicker along with the rest of the picture. Also when the flickering stopped the input source selection menu was also incorrectly colored like the rest of the picture. I have also noticed a blue discolored area in long thin triangle shape at the top of the screen. It starts at the left of the screen where it is around 1" thick. It stretches across the top of the screen from left to right getting thinner and stopping about the middle of the screen. This blue discoloration can be seen when the TV is operating normally.

Have the same problem with the flashing losing color. Turn off for a while and then is fine for sometimes a hour or so, placing fan behind it helped but it is getting worse. Its been doing it for about 6months but then was fine for a month then started again then fine again.

Push the menu button when the problem shows up again. Please tell me if the flashes show up in the displays as well on the menus. I can take it from there.

I have a 50 inch DLP samsung and it wont power on after making a lot of noise (I replaced the lamp) worked fine for a few days now the red light and the right side green light is blinking. any sugge

The answers above are correct. It's either the lamp or the color wheel. Testing the lamp is pretty straight forward. Use an Ohm meter to see if the it's filament has continuity. It's unlikely that a good color wheel would fail immediately after changing the lamp. Look to see if some wiring is out of place and rubbing the wheel causing the noise you described. A jammed but otherwise good color wheel would cause the TV to shut down and display an error code.

Sounds like the DLP lamp failed. You can decipher the Hitachi flashing red light. That should help to be sure.
The DLP lamp replacement is fairly straightforward and can be done with minimal tools

Samsung 50" DLP - Lamp Light Blinking after bulb replacement

Listen closely. The tv should make a high pitch whine as it turns on. If it does wait and see if it tries this a few times. If yes then check the bulb, I have seen cases where the lamp shoves the power connector back into the set. If the tv starts with a grown or heavy vibration noise, then your color wheel may have broken and needs replaced.

Philips Magnavox 55P8288A Green tinge over entire picture

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.
