Question about ViewSonic VX922 19" Monitor Flat Panel

No Power, But I can't open the plastic case

I have a "dead" VX922, so I decided to take the 4 screws out of the back and take the base off. But guess what? I cannot figure out how to take the plastic back cover off. It is still secured with some kind of hidden plastic. Anyone know how to pry this monitor apart once all the screws and base are off?

I have tried to open the case of ViewSonic VA1930WM LCD monitor. I have removed all visible screws and released all clips around the side. However only the front "frame" releases and is loose...

These units are more of a challenge to get open than most monitors. Here are the steps:

remove all cords - power, VGA/DVI speaker
remove stand - pull off hinge cover and then remove 4 screws
2 screws at bottom corners of case.
Now comes the fun part.
On the bottom edge there are 2 slits on on each side of the monitor about 3-4 inches in from the side. Use a small flat bladed screwdriver inserted in this slot to pop the two halves apart. Once you get a small gap just work your way around the entire monitor until the case halves are released from each other, but don't pull them apart yet. When opening most monitors the front comes off first but on this one the back case comes off first. You will need to again use your flat blade screwdriver inserted between the two case pieces and under the LCD panel and gently apply pressure. At the same time you will need to pull one end of the back case away from the panel, there are two plastic catches on each end that hold the panel inn the back case. One end will release then the other sould come right out so you can remove the back plastic case from the electronics. Now to get to the electronics you will need to remove the two screws on each end of the panel that hold the metal RF shielding in place. Also there is a screw in the center at the bottom of the panel that will need to be removed. Next unplug the 4 backlight power plugs. Slightly lift the shield so you can get to the flat ribbon cable going from the driver board to the panel. It will unplug from the panel by pressing in on the two release tabs, one on each end of the plug. Now you can get to the electronics. I am guessing you are having power issues with the unit. Check here for power supply repair kits if you need to get parts for your unit.

I hope this helps you get the case off, if so please rate my solution.

How to remove the case on LCD monitors

This tip will explain how to open the case on most LCD monitors. Most monitors will eventually have a problem with the power supply and need servicing. The part most people have difficulty with is opening the case to get to the electronics. You will need a phillips screw driver and a small flat blade screwdrivers. You will first need to remove the stand, place a bath towel on a flat table, lay the monitor down and unscrew the screws holding the base and remove. Next you will need to remove any screws that are holding the back plastic case on, they will normally be in the 4 corners and possibly 1 in the bottom center of the back. Now take the small flat blade screwdriver and insert it between the two halves of the case in the center of the bottom. Be sure to not do this by the control panel so you don't break it. Gently pry the two halves apart. Most monitors will have several plastic latches around the perimeter of the case, usually 2 on each side that will need to be released. As you separate the case halves the latches will release and the back will separate from the front. You will need to unplug the control panel cable at this time before you can get to the electronics. Now you just need to use the phillips screwdriver and remove the metal shield from the electronics to get to the power supply. See pictures below.
Now release the catches as seen below:

Viewsonic VX922 monitor no power

I had the same problem with my VX924. The two 470uFx25V was blown, and the output diode was in short circuit. I also noticed that the 33R SMD resistor (to pin 6 of SMD IC) was opened. After replaced these parts, the monitor works great.

How do I open my HPw 1907 Monitor

Start by removing the base. There are 3 screws. First pull the base plate off. Then remove 2 screws. Next remove the little rubber insert in the center of the base bracket. You will need a long phillips to get to the 3rd screw. Slide out the base bracket. Flip the panel over and stare at the lcd with the buttons side on the top. Grab a small flat head screw driver. Look at an angle in each of the corners between the inner black lcd trim and the silver outside trim. There is a ****. Shove the flathead in there and pry outward toward the silver trim while lifting on the black inner trim vertically. The trick is to flex the black trim toward the silver and then pull up. There are 6 plastic snaps on the top and bottom, and 4 snaps on the left and right. If you've taken laptop screens apart, you'll feel the similarity.

Once you pry the black trim off the front. Disconnect the LCD Menu button assembly and power button. Then flip over the LCD and lift off the back shell. Looking at the back, remove the 2 connectors for the speakers. Use a small flathead to pry the 4 Inverter power connectors. These 4 connectors have a clip on them and are usually hard to pull out using the wire. Once thoses 6 connectors are removed, remove the 2 phillips screws holding the AC power plug to the case. Also remove the 4 3/16 posts for the VGA and DVI ports. Next remove 4 screws, 2 screws from each side of the LCD assembly. Hold the panel face down with the aluminum tape in the bottom left. Lift the shield and guide the 6 wires through the cage. While opening, look inside and disconnect the flat ribbon cable as soon as you can. Put the LCD to the side. Remove 2 screws from the Video processing board, and 5 screws from the power supply. Note: 1 of the 5 screws is longer. Rotate/slide the power PCB away from the cage to clear the speaker and AC plug, Then rotate towards the Video board. Disconnect 1 plug. The OTHER plug is SOLDERED and must be disconnected from the video processing board.

When power is applied to the lcd monitor vx922, then green light ON and the screen shows dispay for one second and then screen shows dark screen permanently

If obtaining the capacitors is a problem you can purchase a replacement power supply from the Viewsonic store. I just performed the repair on my VX922 and it works Like a champ. The replacement power supply is Part Number B-00003993 PSU - Supply (ADP.INV, FSP043-2P101 90"264V GP) according to the invoice. The total cost shipped was about $35 when I ordered it on AUG 5, 2009. It was quite easy to do and took 30 minutes. The monitor is working like a champ. The capacitors where in fact swollen but that led me to believe that other components may be suspect hence the decission to go with the entire supply based on the minimal cost and lack of availability of capacitors. Tools needed were phillips screw driver set, nutdriver for removal of VGA and DVI locknuts/capstands, cuticle scraper for removal of internal connectors and monitor case clips and a "Bennifiber" measuring scoop (to seperate the monitor case halves without scratching). Be careful when removing the aluminum insulating tape holding the connectors and planar boards down or it will tear. If you have "aluminum" duct repair tape it will suffice as a replacement. Also you will need to remove the tape on the sides to gain access to the screws mounting the cage holding the power supply and inverter assembly.

How do Iopen the case of an HPvs17x monitor?

The Capacitors on the power board are usually the reason for failure of an LCD. If you open the HP VS17 ( I can provide an exhaustive step by step If I have to) remove the five screws for the power board ( larger of the two boards) and look for an area where there are 4 caps (see pic). Look for exploded, popped up, bulging, or leaking caps and replace with the same or slightly higher tolerances. The one I replaced last night were (2x )1000uf25-50volt and (2x) 470uf25-50volt. Check the rest of the board for similar issues and replace as needed.

Is there an easy way to open this monitor?

-Flip the LCD face down and remove the screws that hold the base in place. -looking at the top edge of the LCD monitor you should see a small notch on each end between the front bezel and the back cover. -Using a plastic tool or a flat blade screw driver insert the tip and gently pop the case open. -Work your way around the edge of the case. -Once the LCD monitor is open unplug the control panel connector from the right side and remove the front bezel.
