Lenovo ThinkCentre M52 8212 - Pentium D 925 3 GHz (S6466890) PC Desktop Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jun 23, 2010

Computer is a Lenovo TC M52 P4 / 3.2 - I have added a sound card, a PCI express Geforce graphics card and a NIC card. The problem seems to be overheating as it only shuts down like this during the summer months, and then only later in the daytime when temps are highest (ambient room temp is no more than 75F). It shuts down with no warning (fan speed does not increase) then it restarts - that is when the internal fan really kicks in - but the computer usually shuts off again within about 30 seconds. If I leave it off for a few minutes, it comes back on and works OK but then usually shuts down again. I found if I put a portable fan blowing towards the back of the computer (or pop open the case and leave it open) the problem goes away. It seems like the fan speed should increase before the computer shuts off, but the fan only cranks up AFTER the first shut-down. I could get a stronger fan, but if it is not coming on until after the initial shut down, is there something else I should be looking for?

The case fan should start running as soon as you turn on the computer. I would replace the fan with a higher capacity (CFM). If you have a case that can take 2 case fans, I would install the send fan. Also with the case off, check that the CPU cooler fan is functioning. With the quick shut off, I would suspect that the CPU cooler fan is not functioning. I could be impeded by dust. Vacuum and blow out any dust on the motherboard, fans and battery fan while you have the case off.
This should aleviate the shutoff problem due to overheating.
Let me know if this solves the problem.
Please rate this solutution. Thanks.

As a precaution to dislodging or damaging something, use canned air to blow off the dust inside the case.

Hp pavillion a1632x

According to this page,
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00771728&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en#N83

Unless you added parts, or got a different variation of the computer, the A1632X has two available PCI slots and one available PCI Express x16

I'm the GF FX 5200 only came in AGP and PCI packages, the PCI Express model was label as a 5300.

If you have the PCI version, it should work. If you have the AGP version, there is no slot for it in the A1632X

Can i get this geforce 6200,256mb ddr2 (that i had in an old desktop cpu) to work on my compaq presario c700 which i bout like 4 yrs ago? seems to me that this big ole board cant be jerryrigged to work...

The video card form factors are different for a laptop and pc. A PCI Express slot for PC is not the same as a PCMCIA slot for a laptop. You cannot interchange video cards between them.

I have a P5VD2-MX motherboard, currently I have a Geforce 7900GS.

Hi!

Since there is 1 PCI Express x16 slot you can use any PCI Express GPU, like Asus GeForce GTX 260 896MB PhysX CUDA, EVGA GeForce 9800GT 512MB PhysX CUDA, Gainward GeForce 9800GT 512MB PhysX CUDA or whatever you want as long as it is a PCI EPRESS card.

Good luck
