Toshiba 40H80 - Turns on . . . wigs out for about 30-seconds . . . shuts off.

My TV just stopped working. It's weird. It turns on but the convergence is all off really bad. And the whole screen is wigging out a little. The wigging out gets worse and worse, and convergence gets worse and worse until the hole thing shuts itself off, like it overloaded or something. Then it won't turn on unless I leave it off for a long time, as though it has to cool off. In fact, that's exactly what it seems like -- like something is overheating. The whole process from when I turn it on, until it shuts itself off is maybe 30 seconds.

Any ideas? It's otherwise a great TV. I'd hate to have to replace it.

My Toshiba 40H80 does the same thing - red on light flashes when picture and sound go away. I unplugged set and waited different amounts of time but the same thing happens within 15 to 30 seconds.

A convergence problem is very commond. In most cases the convergence output amplifer IC's need to be replaced. This is not something you should do. Call a repair shop.

Sound, No Picture

The only thing you can do is to unplug the tv for 30 min. Then turn it back on and see if that fixed it. If not call a repair man, you are most likely missing a power supply voltage or deflection voltage.

40H80 Problem TV will not switch to non antenna inputs

Sounds like you have a bad tuner. It is not uncommon for solder joints to deteriorate over a period of time and loose continuity. If you are handy with a soldering iron, you can try to fix it yourself but I really recommend leaving it to a professional.
