You will need to open the back cover and the tuner/main board to get access to where the connectors are.
I will try to find the service manual to help you locate the area where the problem could be.

Hi,
If you yourself have replace it, I think you damage the upper LCD ribbon connector. I have repaired a lot of DS, a broken hinge usually the cause of that problem( ribbon connector cut off ).
Check the upper LCD if that model have a seperate ribbon connector, luckily you could buy the ribbon only, if not, BAD LUCK, you have to buy a new upper LCD.
Hope that helps you out.
Thanks for asking FixYa!

Broken screen, can it be repaired?

The short answer is yes.

It may not be worth it to have it professionally repaired, but if you can do it yourself; it's relatively simple and saves a good amount of money. Replacement screens can be found for as little as $20 dollars on internet auction sites.
Assuming you have a fairly decent mechanical ability:

1) Remove battery and memory card. And touch something metal to remove any static charge.

2) Remove all screws from exterior casing(using properly sized philips screwdriver). Devise some manner of keeping track of them.

3) Using a narrow plastic tool or similar; work your way around the seam between the two halves; gently prying until you can easily remove the rear facing.

- You should now have full access to the screen.

4) Follow the ribbon(coming from the screen) to it's connector(white and brown)
Gently open the ribbon connector. The brown piece should slide towards the ribbon and hinge open.

5) The screen itself, is just clipped and lightly glued in. So just gently pry around the screen with the plastic tool until the adhesive is broken and the screen pops out.

6) Take new screen, removing any packing materials, and insert the ribbon into the connector. Carefully sliding it in all the way. Close the brown retainer and slide to lock in.

7) Position screen inside clips - Double-stick tape can substitute the adhesive.

8) Continue reassembly in reverse of dis-assembly.

Note: If I recall correctly, reassembly is easier if you put the top of the back piece in place first.

Pitfalls:
Don't lose the screws and be careful not to strip them.
Pieces such as screen and ribbon are delicate - don't use brute force!
Case, if too much force is applied, can bend and/or distort.

Be gentle, go slow, and you should do just fine!

Good luck!

Alex

Whenever I turn it on theres just a blue screen and I can't get it to record

It took me a while to figure this one out but I finally did and mine is back to working perfectly. The problem: The Play option worked fine but the camera did not. When turned to camera mode the blue canon screen would come up and then freeze. The only way to turn it off was to remove the battery.

The fix: I was brave enough to take the entire outer shell off the camera. On the main board, underneath the screen/battery side, all the different parts are connected together. There is a single connector from the lens that had come out of its port. The ribbon connector must have somehow been shaken out of the port at some point. With needle nose pliers I carefully fit the ribbon connector back into the port. I carefully reattached the outer shell and everything was back working!

I will warn you that this task takes some time due to many many screws. It's a lot better than sending it off for hundreds of dollars though.

Got a laptop Aspire 7520, laptop loads starts up fine but the screen has gone black, can hardly see the desktop display. have tried adjusting the brightness of the laptop but still desktop display can not...

To fix this problem it will require you to physically open up your laptop , which will probably void you warranty , so please get this replaced under warranty if possible , if your not worried do the following.

Remove all the screws holding the laptop's shell together and open up behind the laptops screen , there are two connectors here which you will require to check , the power connector which is a small black connector and the more prominent video ribbon connector make sure these two cables are connected properly,

You may discover that you have a faulty LCD screen either get it replaced by a trained technician or do it your self (your halfway there anyway)

You may also find that the cables became dislodged and this fixed your problem.

Though it could also be a software issue probably within the graphics cards application , i see you have checked brightness but have you checked all options to change it ?

This is a hard one

Goodluck

Ds shell

you are best watching a dismatling video on youtube, here is a good on but sound is foreign: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dHtv9DA94g&eurl=http://www.dsfanboy.com/2006/02/20/dismantle-your-ds-in-13-minutes

A few tips:

Take care with those speakers, the connectors are very sensitive and the wires can easily break.

Take care with the screen ribbon cables and connectors on the board, the two big ribbons have connector that lift up the little ones slide outwards.

the hinge cover has a little screw near the ribbon cable dont forgot to take that off so you can extract the ribbon through the case slot and don't forgot to replace that on your new case before putting it all back together.

on the top screen the ribbon cable may be covered by a bit of sticky foam, just peal that away carefully to access the ribbon.

Watch you dont loose any buttons by tipping the case when dismantling.

In general just take care and dont attempt to turn it on whilst in bits, you could short the screen on the board and blow a fuse.

Good luck...

PS2 Ribbon

There is but you must open the system and take it ALL apart then reconnect it!
UNLESS you pulled it from the shell.. There is the led lights which are connected to the shell if you actually tore the ribbon then get a new ribbon and shell on ebay 10$ ish!

If not tear it all apart and re-insert the ribbon to the bottom unit which holds the laser. If you need pictures of what I am talking about let me know as it is a complicated process which took me a full hr when the system first came out!

Change cases

if you have the correct screw drivers, open up the bottom if you can see the ending of the ribbon on the motherboard, slide a "regular" screw driver under the clasp and gently lift up. this will free the ribbon from the mother board. i believe the clasp is black. but remember be gentle and try not to scrape the ribbon too badly.

Hi, before sending it in or taking it to a Motorola repair station, try this. Open phone turn it over so camera is facing you with finger behind and thumb of your right hand sweeze the area between camera lens and the vol up down button to reseat the ribbon connector that is located in that area between the cases. This worked for me and it is worth trying.
